Hodes launches 'Voices of the People' initiative

Rep. Paul Hodes is looking to be a voice box for New Hampshire's 2nd District, literally. As part of his new "Voices of the People" initiative, constituents are being encouraged to send the Congressman "their personal experiences regarding the economy, the war in Iraq, healthcare, gas prices, or other issues that matter to them."

According to a release, Hodes will then "read selected stories on the House Floor, where they will be aired live on C-Span and entered into the Congressional Record to become a permanent part of American history."

"Voices of the People will bring the personal stories of our community directly to our leaders in Washington, ensuring that the House of Representatives remain the people's house," said Hodes.

Dems launch convention website

The New Hampshire Democratic Party has unveiled a website for its 2008 state convention. The interactive site provides details of the convention, including a speaker schedule as well as an online delegate registration form.

The convention will be held May 17 at the McLaughlin Middle School in Manchester.

Horn goes after Hodes on tax bill

Believing that the “Big Mo” is on her side, 2nd District Congressional candidate Jennifer Horn is taking swings at the Democratic incumbent, U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes (D-Concord), for his opposition of a bill aimed at preventing tax hikes in next year’s state budget.

"Because Paul Hodes refused to stand up yesterday, New Hampshire families will now have a much greater tax burden,” Horn, a Republican, said in a statement.

Kindergarten aid may be on the way for districts

State House lawmakers approved legislation today that will help the remaining 11 school districts in New Hampshire that don’t offer public kindergarten to do so.

The bill now heads to the House Finance Committee. Based on recommendations made by the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Costing an Adequate Education, the legislation will provide those school districts with construction and education grants.
