CONCERNED CITIZENS HAND OUT BUSH-SUNUNU TAX RECEIPTS AS PORTSMOUTH RESIDENTS MAIL IN THEIR TAXES
The average taxpayer paid $1,678.77 in hidden Bush-Sununu taxes this year
(Portsmouth, NH) - This afternoon, concerned New Hampshire citizens gathered in Portsmouth to hand out Bush-Sununu tax receipts as Portsmouth residents mailed in their tax returns. The receipts detailed the hidden taxes imposed by John E. Sununu's loyalty to the Bush agenda, which for the average taxpayer comes to $593.48 in taxes to finance the Iraq war and $1,085.29 to pay interest on the record national debt.
"Between rising gas prices, rising grocery bills, and everything else, now we have to pay these hidden taxes because we have a Senator who would rather stand with George Bush than stand up for us," said Jeff McLean, a Portsmouth resident who handed out receipts today. "We need a Senator who won't break his promises once he gets to Washington and who will fight for us."
The group of concerned citizens gathered outside the Portsmouth post office at 80 Daniel Street today from 12pm - 1pm to hand out a receipt detailing the cost of Sununu's broken promises.
"For all his promises of being a fiscal conservative, John Sununu's loyalty to George Bush has imposed a hidden tax on New Hampshire's middle class families," said Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinated Campaign. "Sununu has broken his promises, and middle class families are paying the price."
