Is Jennifer Horn the frontrunner?

On Tuesday, Jennifer Horn declared herself the Republican frontrunner in the Second Congressional District Republican primary.

Horn cited her fundraising numbers as evidence that her campaign gaining the " Big Mo."

According to FEC records filed this week, Horn raised $56,368 in the first three months of the year, while Bob Clegg raised $19,950, Grant Bosse pulled-in $14,471 and Jim Steiner raised $3,413.

However, Horn has less money in the bank than Clegg. Horn has $30,671 cash-on-hand, while Clegg has $85,631.

"Momentum is on our side. Our campaign has raised more money and has more donors than any of my Republican opponents.  It's because the voters across the 2nd district know that I am the only candidate who can beat Paul Hodes in November," Horn said in a statement.

Not surprisingly, Horn's competitors disagree with her frontrunner declaration.

"Jennifer isn't running away with the nomination. She's running away from the issues. She has repeatedly refused to take a stand on important issues during our joint appearances," Bosse said. "New Hampshire voters have a proud tradition of defeating self-proclaimed front-runners with nothing to say, and I'll trust their judgment this fall."

"She can run for frontrunner, Bob is running for Congress," said Bob Clegg's campaign spokeswoman Alicia Preston.

Political analyst Dean Spiliotes argued that it's not clear if Horn can call herself the frontrunner.

"It's possible, but it's not yet clear that she's the frontrunner. We really haven't had a head-to-head competition to show that," he said.

Spiliotes added that the second quarter fundraising numbers, due out in July, will be more important than the recent filings.

"All the candidates will be on a level playing field in this quarter," he added. "The second-quarter will be an interesting test."

There has also been no public polling on the race to prove Horn's assertion.

What is clear is whoever is the frontrunner must raise more money if they wish to compete against Congressman Paul Hodes (D-Concord).

In the first three months of the year, Hodes raised over $250,000 and has $850,000 cash-on-hand.

Horn is the frontrunner

Jennifer Horn has quickly impressed me. After meeting her at the Amherst Republican Committee meeting I signed onto her campaign, donated her money and will fight for her through November.

Jennifer is the conservative leader we need!

Give me a beak!

She's not the frontrunner! She's raising money, but she is lacking any substance on issues. Bob Clegg is probably the frontrunner, Horn second, Bosse a competitive third, and Jim Steiner is a distant fourth.

Are you telling me that the

Are you telling me that the People's Republic of Amherst has a Republican committee? No way!!!

Yes

Yes they do- if you are refering to Amherst, you know one of the largest vote blocs in the 2nd district then yes that Amherst.

Almost every town or area in the 2nd district has a republican party aparatus.

Horn is the ONLY Candidate Who Can Win

Jennifer Horn is the ONLY candidate who can win in the 2nd district.

Steiner and Bosse arent legitimate candidates and Republicans are not going to win by trying to out regulate, out tax and out spend the Democrats like Bob Clegg tries to do in Concord.

Best thing I did was get out

Best thing I did was get out of that town-LOL! Amherst, aka Peyton Place, is a shadow of its former conservative self.

What's up with Steiner?

Why is it that Jim is a distant fourth? Just curious what it is that's holding him back.

Fear of Retribution

Jennifer Horn has clearly established herself. I am now curious to see how quickly those who have supported Clegg only for fear of retribution (local & state representatives or business people who need contracts, licenses, etc.) will abandon him now that they realize he will not be elected to Congress and will no longer hold a State Senate seat. He has lost his clout and hopefully they will lose their fear!

If you are the frontrunner

If you are the frontrunner in a field of people without a snowball's chance in Miami of winning, is that a good thing?

Jennifer Who?

Who is this nutty lady that no one has ever heard of? How can she be the frontrunner when Clegg has more cash on hand? Clegg has way more name id, and Grant Bosse is offering way more substance on the issues than the other 3 combined.

Carol Shea Horn

Jennifer Horn is a slightly better looking conservative version of Carol Shea Porter...let's just hope she doesn't win!

Clegg is way more electable, Horn is kind of scary.

No comparison

You have GOT to be kidding. Carol Shea Porter looks like Captain Kangaroo with her new hairstyle.

Horn is young, bright, attractive, dynamic and articulate. Her positions on issues are reasonable and given her support, seem to be appealing to people from a wide variety of political and socio-economic backgrounds.

Jennifer Horn is a breath of

Jennifer Horn is a breath of fresh air. She is a mother of five and is in touch with regular everyday families and New Hampshire citizens. Unlike Clegg when I speak to Horn she listens and actually CARES that words are coming out of my mouth. Her staff has a lot of young and new political faces and Horn is not surrounded by the New Hampshire political establishment.

Because of this difference, Horn will be able to give the Republicans a chance to win the seat against Hodes. She will put up a good fight!
