Mayor Frank Guinta names David Mara as next Chief of Police for City of Manchester MANCHESTER (April 22, 2008) – Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta nominated Captain David J. Mara as the next Chief of Police for the City of Manchester. The Board of Mayor and Alderman unanimously approved this selection. He will begin as Chief on April 25. “After due and careful consideration, I am pleased to nominate Captain David J. Mara as the next Chief of the Manchester Police Department… perhaps his most important attribute is that he currently has the complete and total confidence of the men and women of the Manchester Police Department, a group whose opinion I hold in highest regard,” Guinta said. Mara is a 1984 graduate from Northeastern University, and holds a Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law, which he received in 1994. He has been with the department since 1986. In his most recent position at the Police Department, he was Professional Standards Captain. Previously, he served as the Administrative Captain and as the prosecutor for the Manchester Police Department.
