Former governor, and Senatorial candidate, Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) has been endorsed by the Sierra Club.
The endorsement came at a Concord event at the State Library and was immediately criticized by Shaheen's expected rival, U.S. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley).
"I am honored to be here today and grateful to have the support of the Sierra Club," Shaheen said in a statement. "We need leadership in Washington that understands the urgency of our environmental situation and the need for green policies."
However, Sununu argued the group is "undermining" forest preservation efforts in the Granite State.
"How fitting that endorsement being trumpeted by Jeanne Shaheen is from a Washington Interest Group that is trying to undermine New Hampshire's 10-year forest plan for protecting, supporting, and managing the White Mountain National Forest (WMNF)," Sununu said in a press release.
Sununu also said that Shaheen has "turned her back" on New Hampshire.
"Today, Jeanne Shaheen has turned her back on her own state, endorsing the tactics of a DC lobbyist group that is working to tear apart what was built through consensus and cooperation here in New Hampshire."

One to talk...
Please... Sununu, you are one to talk, you turned your back on NH long ago. Just keep cashing those checks from the oil industry and it will be alright, although you won't receive as many after November 4th.
Shaheen 2008!
I can come up with 2008 reasons why Jeanne Shaheen should be our next Senator, the first 1,000 are that John Sununu is our current Senator....
John Sununu is an excellent
John Sununu is an excellent Senator for us and the thought of Jeane as a Senator is a joke. The woman was a horrible Governor and too far to the left and is a pawn of Moveon.org, extreme labor groups, and now the Sierra Club a radical group.
Shaheen endorsed by Sierra Club
WOW! When did the Sierra Club become a radical group? Use your brain! The Sierra Club has been working to save our planet! The article reads: "The Sierra Club is America's oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization and consists of more than 700,000 members nationwide. The group endorsed Shaheen because of her strong leadership on environmental issues and commitment to finding smart energy solutions."
I have been waiting for someone to replace John Sununu! He ignores climate change. He continues to do what is best for himself instead of what is best for the people. New Hampshire deserves a cleaner, greener, devoted humanitarian for Senator. I hate the letters his office sends out, they are so pretentious! He doesn't even care about the lives he is crushing! Sununu is ABSURD!
The only reason "Dave17" thinks Jeanne Shaheen is a joke is most likely because she is a smart woman. Does that scare you? GOOD!!!
GO FOR IT JEANNE!!!
