GOFFSTOWN- State Sen. Peter Burling defeated two-term DNC committeeman by a vote of 64 to 56.
"It was a razor thin vote, with two great candidates," Burling said. "I'm prepared to take my skills as a lawyer and an advocate to fight for New Hampshire."
Burling added that he will also work hard to recruit Democratic candidates and fight for the New Hampshire primary.
"I am prepared to do everything in my power to make sure that we have a Democratic U.S. Senator in November," he added.
The Democratic State Committee also elected Kathy Sullivan to fill the seat left open by the retirement of Anita Freedman. Sullivan's father served as national committeeman in the 1950s.
During her speech, Sullivan called for party unity.
"No matter who our nominee is, I will as usual, kill myself to get that nominee elected in November," she said.
"I am looking forward to being back at the DNC and working to protect the New Hampshire primary," Sullivan later said.
Sullivan and Burling will be seated after the national convention.
