Democratic leaders at "Unity 08" press conferenceCONCORD- Despite the ongoing primary battle between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, supporters from various Democratic presidential campaigns gathered today to launch “Unity 08,” a push to put a Democrat back in the White House.
The effort is aimed at highlighting John McCain's record.
Former Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan, State Rep. Terie Norelli and State Sen. Sylvia Larsen represented the Clinton campaign. Ned Helms and State Sen. Martha Fuller Clark represented the Obama camp and State Sen. Peter Burling represented the Edwards campaign. State Party Chairman Ray Buckley was also present.
"We are here to say that we are absolutely committed to seeing a Democrat goes back to the White House in 2008. As Kathy said, we cannot afford another four years of the disastrous policies that we have seen in the last eight," Helms said. "John McCain at every turn has embraced those policies in a two-armed grip."
New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen was also present at the event and compared the Democratic nominating process to the ending of The Wizard of Oz.
"If we just don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain they're in good shape," Cullen said.
"They just gloss over these huge gaping weaknesses they have. They can't even agree things like should we have a gas tax holiday, should we seat the Michigan and Florida delegates," Cullen told reporters.
Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen continues to lead U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu in their race for the Senate this year, a new poll out today suggests.

Nice Coverage
How is it that over a third of the coverage of this event talks about Fergus Cullen. Is he running for President? I thought the lobbyists already had already picked a candidate.
While Democratic leaders are presciently doing their jobs,
Fergus! mocks them for having disagreements with each other. Meanwhile, I love how he criticizes Democrats for debating whether or not to seat the MI and FL delegates, while his party completely caved on that issue, leading to potential chaos in nominating contests to come. Typical of a Republican leader, he doesn't give a damn about what happens after this election cycle.
