SUNUNU ANNOUNCES $274,000 GRANT TO HOUSE NEW HAMPSHIRE’S HOMELESS VETERANS

WASHINGTON, DC – United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (5/5) announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $274,352  in HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) funding for homeless veterans in New Hampshire.  The agency estimates that the award will fund 35 rental vouchers for homeless veterans with disabilities, including severe psychiatric or substance abuse disorders.

“Under this program, which Congress passed as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008, HUD and the Veterans Administration work together to find housing for homeless veterans, “ said Sununu.  “In New Hampshire, these vouchers will enable VA staff to work with the designated public housing agency to help veterans locate suitable private market rental units while receiving needed services.”

The HUD-VASH program combines an allocation of Section 8 rental vouchers from HUD with ongoing case management and clinical services provided by the VA.  The Manchester Housing Authority is the designated public housing agency that will administer the vouchers for New Hampshire.
