Office of Mayor Frank C. Guinta Contact: Mark Laliberte (mlaliberte@manchesternh.gov) (603) 624-6500 Mayor Frank Guinta announces special Aldermanic and School Committee meetings MANCHESTER (May 5, 2008) – Mayor Frank Guinta announced there will be two meetings on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, to address the Board of School Committee’s budget appropriation for Fiscal Year 2009. The first meeting will be a joint meeting of both the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and the Board of School Committee and will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a separate special meeting of the Board of School Committee meeting to immediately follow. Both meeting will be held in the Aldermanic Chambers, One City Hall Plaza, Manchester. The purpose of the first meeting will be a follow-up of the city’s Finance Committee meeting on April 14, when the school administration answered questions from the committee. The second meeting will be a work session to discuss the Mayor’s school budget for FY09 and a board vote on whether to authorize the superintendent to send out reduction in force notices. “I believe we must continue the dialogue between all stakeholders,” Mayor Guinta said. “The school district will have $7.3 million less in revenue this year, so this will require creativity and proactive thinking on behalf of everyone involved. This is a solutions-based process that will provide cost-savings that will spare taxpayers while still meeting the obligations of our students.”
