Steve Duprey, former state Republican Chairman, has been traveling aboard campaign buses and planes since January.
He has gained the reputation of being the "funny guy," The Wall Street Journal reports.
Duprey's antics include buying candy for campaign staffers, handing out McCain t-shirts and hats and pictures of him are often posted on Megan McCain's website, McCainBlogette.com.
"He's a fun guy," McCain told The Wall Street Journal. "He makes everybody feel good."
Duprey is paying for all his expenses and is currently on-leave from his real estate business.
