Congressman Hodes’ Statement on President Bush’s Veto of the Farm Bill and the Northern Border Regional Commission

Washington, DCCongressman Paul Hodes released the following statement on President Bush’s veto of the Farm Bill and the Northern Border Regional Commission included in the legislation.

“I was disappointed to learn that President Bush has vetoed legislation enabling the creation of the Northern Border Regional Commission that could invest up to $30 million a year to create jobs and more opportunity for the North Country.

While I don’t agree with everything included in the Farm Bill, I believe that it is critical to New Hampshire’s long term economic future to create this Northern Border Regional Commission that can provide a permanent federal infrastructure to bring improvement in roads, rail, broadband, job training, energy generation, and health care in Grafton, Coos, Sullivan, and Carroll counties in New Hampshire.

I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers to override President Bush’s veto to give hope and economic opportunity to the people of the North Country.”
