WEB VIDEO: SUNUNU PAYS LIP SERVICE TO HIGH FOOD PRICES

Three days after visiting a Manchester food bank, Sununu voted against a proposal backed by the NH Food Bank that would double funding for food banks

(Manchester, NH) - The Coordinated Campaign of the New Hampshire Democratic Party released a web video today examining John Sununu's double talk on food banks. Sununu visited a Manchester food bank on May 12 and paid lip service to the high cost of food, but just three days later, he voted against a proposal to double food bank funding, including $50 million for 2008. [Senate Vote #130, 5/15/08] The proposal was part of the 2008 Farm Bill, which the New Hampshire Food Bank supported.

 Sununu Says, Sununu Does

"John Sununu pays lip service to middle class families while he's in New Hampshire, then he votes against helping them with high food prices in Washington D.C.," said Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinated Campaign. "Instead of standing up for New Hampshire's middle class families, he stood with Bush and voted against funding for food banks, even though the bill was supported by the New Hampshire Food Bank. Food prices are soaring, and John Sununu is just part of the problem,"

A recent update on the Consumer Price Index showed that food prices this year grew the fastest in eighteen years. But just three days after stopping by a Manchester food bank to discuss rising food prices, Sununu was one of only 15 senators to vote with George Bush and against the 2008 Farm Bill. The bill included a proposal to double spending for food banks in order to help middle class families who are struggling with the high cost of food, including $50 million for 2008.
