GREGG VOTES TO BRING CLIMATE CHANGE LEGISLATION TO FLOOR FOR DEBATE
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today joined the majority of his colleagues in voting to bring the Climate Security Act, sponsored by Senators Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and John Warner (R-VA), to the floor of the United States Senate for debate. It is expected that the Senate will consider this legislation during most of the week.
Senator Gregg stated, “As the Senate begins debate on the Warner-Lieberman proposal it is critically important that we carefully consider the wide range of impacts this legislation will have, both on the environment, the economy, and the American family budget. As proposed, the cap and trade system put in place by this plan would drastically increase the costs of producing energy, costs which would undoubtedly be passed along in the form of higher energy bills to consumers. Since the trillions of dollars in potential revenue created by this proposal are so significant, we need to carefully weigh our options on how to benefit American families hit by higher costs rather than increasing the size of government through new programs. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the amending process to ensure that this legislation takes much-needed steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect our environment for future generations without passing the American taxpayers a bill which they cannot afford.”
