Today in the U.S. Senate

Editors note: This is a daily post that aims to provide a round-up of daily events surrounding the U.S. Senate race in New Hampshire.

Today the battle between U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) and former governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) turned to the federal budget.

Sununu voted against the budget, which caused the Democratic Senatorial Congressional Committee to say that Sununu is "out of touch with Granite State values." While, Sununu said the budget shows that Congressional Democrats are "out of touch."

"With this budget, the Democrats have again underscored how out of touch they are with the financial pressures that families in New Hampshire and across America face every day," Sununu said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Shaheen's issued an e-mail fundraising appeal labeled "Exxon and Halliburton vs. you."

"If you get just 10 friends to give just $22 each you will have contributed $242 to Jeanne's campaign to pay for radio ads and  lawn signs. If your ten friends do the same and get 10 friends to contribute - our campaign will have $2,442 to spend on setting up local offices and airing television ads," the e-mail reads.

In case you're keeping track, Shaheen will file with the Secretary of State on Friday.
