WEB VIDEO: SUNUNU GIVES TAX BREAKS TO BIG OIL, TAKES THEIR CAMPAIGN MONEY

(Manchester, NH) - The Coordinated Campaign of the New Hampshire Democratic Party today released a web video examining John Sununu's history of doling out huge tax breaks to oil and gas companies in exchange for their campaign contributions -- he has accepted $221,030 from oil and gas companies so far.

"Sununu claims he doesn't favor giving anyone special treatment under the tax code, but he's voted to give billions in tax giveaways to oil and gas companies and at the same time has accepted over $220,000 in campaign donations from them," said Alex Reese, press secretary for the NHDP's Coordinated Campaign. "Doling out tax breaks with one hand and taking campaign contributions with the other is why John Sununu is just part of the problem."

The web video released today cuts through Sununu's Washington excuses from a television interview this weekend and looks at the facts:

  • In May 2006, John Sununu voted to provide $5 billion in tax breaks to big oil companies.
  • In 2005, Sununu twice rejected a windfall profits tax for big oil.
  • In June 2007, Sununu voted to gut a big oil tax package and let big oil keep $29 billion that would have funded alternative energy.
  • Sununu accepted $1,000 from Chevron on the same day that he voted to protect $13 billion in tax breaks to big oil.
  • Since first running for office, John Sununu has taken $221,030 from the oil and gas industry.

Giving tax money to oil and gas companies and taking their campaign contributions while New Hampshire's middle class families pay $4.00 at the pump -- that's why Sununu is just part of the problem.
