JEANNE SHAHEEN STATEMENT ON SENATOR BARACK OBAMA SECURING THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR PRESIDENT
(Manchester, NH)—Former Governor and current candidate for US Senate Jeanne Shaheen released the following statement today in response to Senator Barack Obama securing the Democratic nomination for President:
"I would like to congratulate Senator Barack Obama for securing enough delegates to claim the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Senator Obama's messages of hope and change reflect the desires of millions of Americans who are looking for a new direction in Washington. I also want to congratulate Senator Clinton for running a strong and impressive campaign focused on the issues that matter to middle class families. Our party is stronger for her ideas, her conviction and her leadership.
"For too long, America's middle class families have been ignored in Washington. Senator Obama and I share the same commitment to bringing about the changes we need—making health care affordable for all Americans, bringing our troops home safely and responsibly from Iraq, providing economic relief for America's middle class families and creating a government that works for all Americans, not just the special interests."
