JEANNE SHAHEEN FOR SENATE ROLLS OUT VETERANS FOR SHAHEEN
(Manchester, NH) – Today, former Governor and current candidate for US Senate Jeanne Shaheen held a press conference in Manchester with veterans to unveil Veterans for Shaheen, a group of veterans supporting Jeanne Shaheen's campaign for the Senate because of her long record of standing up for New Hampshire's veterans.
"I am honored to have the support of so many great servicemen and women who have joined our campaign as members of Veterans for Shaheen," Shaheen said. "As the daughter, wife, and mother-in-law of members of America's armed forces, I understand the honor of your service and the sacrifices you have all made for our country.
"The brave men and women of our armed forces put their lives at risk for each and every one of us in this country and they deserve nothing less than our full admiration, respect and support. As Senator, I promise to use my voice to uphold the promises our country has made to the millions of men and women who have served our country so honorably.
"It is a fundamental American value that we stand by our soldiers who risk and sacrifice so much for us. I want to thank all the men and women who have chosen to stand with me during my campaign as part of Veterans for Shaheen."
Veterans for Shaheen, which will continue to grow as the campaign progresses, will be an active part of Shaheen's campaign, reaching out to other veterans across the state and helping spread Shaheen's message of change and a new direction. Veterans who are interested in joining the campaign are invited to visit www.JeanneShaheen.org/veterans.
"Jeanne Shaheen's record of accomplishment on the issue of supporting our veterans is unblemished, whether it was the time she fought to expand the Veterans Home in Tilton or giving veterans preference in job training programs," said retired Brig. Gen. Jim Smith, USAF. "She has always been there for veterans. Jeanne Shaheen will go to Washington and be a powerful voice for New Hampshire's families and New Hampshire's veterans."
At the press conference, Shaheen renewed her call for a full-service VA facility in New Hampshire—the only state in the United States without one, expanding mental health and disability compensation funding, and expanding higher education opportunities for wounded veterans.
In May, Shaheen called on the Senate to honor the service of the men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan by passing the 21st Century G.I. Bill.
