SENATE PRESIDENT CELEBRATES SIGNING OF TRANSPORTATION PLAN
CONCORD – Senate President Sylvia Larsen celebrated with the Governor and Executive Council today as the 10-year transportation plan was signed into law.
Governor John Lynch signed the legislation at the start of his meeting with the Executive Council with councilors, lawmakers and state transportation officials by his side.
“It is vitally important that we continue to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure in this state. Our public safety and our economy depend on making smart investments in our transportation system. This 10-year transportation plan is a realistic plan and addresses our top priorities,” said Larsen (D-Concord).
House Bill 1646 provides, among other things, for the repair of Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, the widening of Interstate 93, completion of the southern leg of the Conway bypass, completion of the Granite Street exit in Manchester and repairs to 89 red-listed bridges throughout the state.
It sets realistic goals for transportation improvements over the next 10 years and calls for the plan to be reviewed every two years to measure progress. The plan was developed after more than 30 public hearings in communities across the state and intensive study of the state’s transportation needs by the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Intermodal Transportation.
