$200,000 in five days: That is the most recent fundraising goal former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) has set for her supporters.
"Why five days? Because June 30th is the last day we can accept contributions for this reporting period," wrote Shaheen's finance director Louisa Whitney in an email to supporters. "Why $200,000? Because that's how much John Sununu's Washington attack machine is spending on negative attacks on Jeanne Shaheen."
Shaheen is attempting to unseat U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley).
The email says that the $200,000 is the same amount that Americans for Job Security has spent on ads against Shaheen. The group has been airing radio ads criticizing Shaheen's economic record.
"This week, a John Sununu front group, Americans for Job Security, began pouring money into New Hampshire in attack ads and direct mail," according to the email. "This shady outside group will not reveal its donors but we can guess it's funded by the same special interests who always come to John Sununu's defense."
