Two well-known New Hampshire Democrats have endorsed the Republican Party's presumptive presidential nominee. Jim McConaha and Valery Mitchell, who have pledged their support to U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), will serve as co-chairs of "New Hampshire Democrats for McCain."
The announcement comes the day before U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), McCain's presumptive general election opponent, campaigns in New Hampshire with U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.).
McConaha was a political appointment of President Clinton and served as New Hampshire director for the federal Farm Service Agency and was recently a member of U.S. Sen. Chris Dodd's presidential Steering Committee.
Mitchell was a member of John Kerry's Steering Committee in 2004 and also supported Dodd in 2008. She is a former organizer of the Democratic Network.
"It was not easy to step away from my party in the McCain-Obama race, but I want a president whose judgment we know and trust, and a leader who will do what is in the best interest of our country without regard to politics or ideology," Mitchell said in a campaign press release.
McConaha also cited McCain's judgement.
"This is the most important job in the world. We need a leader of proven competence, tested judgment and substantial experience in the modern world and, obviously, that is John McCain."
It was also announced that Marcia Moran, of Concord, and David Lee, of Londonderry, will serve as co-chairs of "New Hampshire Independents for McCain."

McCain's
McCain's judgement????!!!!!!
These two a pair of morons.
How can one reconcile going
How can one reconcile going from Dodd to McCain? Only as a display of political petulance.
How do you go from Dodd to
How do you go from Dodd to McCain? Whatever you think of either, you've got to have some pretty flawed thinking to make that ideological leap.
Support McCain?
I'm trying to understand how people who supported Dodd and Clinton could then turn and choose McCain. It's absurd. He represents the exact opposite of the Dodd-Clinton ideology.
Now, let me get on my soapbox about women voting for John McCain: It's an oxymoron. His goal is to take away as many of our rights as he can manage. He even has a page on his web site dedicated to the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
WAKE UP. He's George Bush in a different suit.
Dems For McSame
Wow, what a reason for supporting the wrong candidate. McSame, ready on day one (thanks Hilary), best judgement, moderan world? McCain is still fighting the Vietnam War that rages in his head, but on the backs of this generation, as did Bush when he use the country to send America to Iraq just to 'go one up on his dad.'
this is frightening
How can two seemingly intelligent adults suggest that people vote against their own self-interests? This is a frightening example of sore losers cutting off their noses to spite their faces...makes no sense at all. It is their own judgement they (and we) should be questioning.
Hmmm
What could be SO different about Barack Obama that these two Democrats can't bring themselves to vote for him, but would rather back a candidate that's oppposed to everything Hillary stands for?
What could it be? His Ivy League education? No. His law degree? No.... I'm sure I'll think of what it is eventually.....
Democrat for McCain
I, too, am a Democrat that will be voting for McCain over Obama. For me, it comes down to this - Obama is not qualified to be president. Unlike Obama, McCain has actually worked in a bipartisian manner. McCain has made hard choices that have alienated his party. Obama has never taken a tough stand or done much of anything.
And furthermore, Roe v. Wade is not going to be touched. The women of this country would not allow it, so spare me all those empty threats.
You're all just AMAZED that
You're all just AMAZED that not everyone is falling in line behind your messiah. When I first noticed Senator Obama, he seemed a large and impressive figure. The closer he has gotten and the more I have learned, the smaller he is. He has associated with the most vile pack of racist and anti-American losers you could dig up. That troubles people. But not you.
I love Obama and his supporters. It just has to be racism. When he won primaries it was DESPITE white racists and when he lost it was BECAUSE of white racists. So which is it? Is it racism when 90% of African Americans vote for for him? Nope. If you don't support HIM though, guess what? You guessed it. Your a racist piece of filth.
The good news is that Senator Obama is only half black. Which means, at most, I could only be half a racist. That should put me in rather large company I should think.
Instead of saying it must be racism you should use your critical thinking skills and ask what do others see that I don't. You might realize that you have a very inexperienced politician that brings nothing but soaring rhetoric to the table and all the while playing the race card. The hypocrisy is that he has followed the hostile and racist teaching of Rev. Wright for 20 years without complaint. Oh there is racism at play here but it is coming from Senator Obama and his supporters.
"the best interest of our
"the best interest of our country without regard to politics or ideology"
Riiigggghhttt... And I am Harry Potter.
From NBC's First Read:
"At his meeting yesterday with social conservatives in Ohio, according to participants, McCain said that he was open to learning more about their opposition to embryonic stem cell research (which he supports), that he would talk more openly about his opposition to gay marriage, and that he would listen seriously to their requests that he choose an anti-abortion running mate"
Only stupid muggles would defy their party to support McSame. Or racists.
Experience? As what
Experience?
As what exactly?
McCain is the very same type of Legacy leader as George Bush (and Kerry and Gore for that matter). The only thing he has done on his own was as a POW -- honorable yes, but does not a president make.
His father got him into Naval Academy -- where in an even worse fashion the Bush at Yale he failed in amazing agility.
Returning from Vietnam his new father in law spent the money to get him elected in AZ.
Compare that bio to self made democrats (Obama and Clinton), with achievements at every level. I don't get the "qualifications" or "judgement" arguments at all.
They are straw arguments for people who backed the wrong horse and are gambling on gaining some influence under someone else...
two PROMINENT democrats?
two PROMINENT democrats? well-known? oh so these must be current or former congressmen. no? ok, at least they're probably state senators or lt. governors or something. no? ok... maybe they were campaign managers for some major campaigns in the past. no?
Former.
New Hampshire state director.
of the federal farm service agency?
don't stare directly at him, his starpower might burn your retinas.
gimme a break.
What a Joke
These two are nothing but a pair of whack-tivists who are worth nothing more than the pixels their names are written on.
Gimme a break.
Kat, why do you have to
Kat, why do you have to question others opinions? So rushed to bring out the charges of racism (or be subtle in your hint). Your comment belittles Obama.
I just don't like Obama, his style, his judgement, his snarky arrogant attitude.
But I couldn't care less he's black.
I do question
If these "life long" Democrats were talking about voting for Nader, or McKinney, or writing in Clinton, I could respect that. But choosing to vote for a guy who is on record as opposing almost everything that Democrats are supposed to be against does make me question their motives.
Who Cares?
If the media would not paying attention to the drama queens, they'd slink off into their padded cells. These people represent a tiny minority. They crave attention. For each wackadoo Dem who refuses to vote for Obama, there will be 2 more waiting to take your place. See ya!
Wouldn't the President need
Wouldn't the President need to know about the potential of computers and technology to be a great leader in the 21st century? I am just saying...
We should be grateful that
We should be grateful that these two fruitcakes have joined the other side and hope they stay there. They've embarassed the Democratic Party for years. Be assured they will do the same for the GOP.
Good job Prominent Dems, Way To Support WWIII
Are these two joking or are they just stupid? Do they have children that will be effected by the re-instatement of the draft McCain spoke of just this week-because as you know, according to McCain, WWIII has already begun. They must think he's experienced because he thinks we should drill for oil off our shores in order to bring gas prices down by .08 per gallon in 6 years? Perhaps they think he is smart because he supports the gas tax holiday that everyone else with a brain recognizes as a sham? The wife beating jokes are funny too. Have fun supporting a man who can't even speak appropriately on most days. All because your candidate didn't win. Neither of you should have a word such as prominent next to your names. Now is the time to stand up and lead and you're choosing to sit. Live.with.that!
These CLOWNS will eat crow (updated)
Democrats who supported Kerry, Dodd and Clinton would not support the Democrat nominee who never voted for the war in Iraq and who has been endorsed by Kerry, Dodd and Clinton. WHY???
The answer is obvious. "I want a white president" has been repackaged and called "I want a president whose judgment I know and trust". And they have the guts to say you're falsely accusing them of racism.
Obama will win with or without these fools. When he does, these clowns will be remembered ONLY for being on the wrong side of history and for lacking the judgment to recognize that something reeeaaaaly good is happening to America - not the kind of legacy you want to leave.
These CLOWNS will eat crow (updated)
What a beautiful post. And I really mean that.
Sarah Jane- Your comment on
Sarah Jane- Your comment on Obama voting against the war in Iraq is true because HE DID NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO VOTE FOR OR AGAINST, you see he was not even in the senate then. People using the race card everytime they don't get their way is getting old, and the media is adding fuel to the fire. Most people have more common sense than that and besides Barack Obama is a candidate for a major political party of the USA, uh.. the highest position in the WORLD. He got there by votes from people I doubt the majority is racist otherwise he wouldn't be where he is now would he?
Me personally I don't know who I will vote for, both candidates would be voting for "politics as usual" not change, hope or whatever. Maybe voting third party would send a message to Congress that they need to start listening to the American people.
The people of NH need to
The people of NH need to vote these clowns out of office. A McCain presidency would be a disaster for our country. I don't know how someone can call themselves a democrat and support McCain. His views are the opposite of Clinton, Kerry, Obama, etc.
Sorry excuse for loser in general.
Im a ultra-conservative DEMOCRAT, but will always vote democrat, always have always will. these people are not and never will be democrat not in their idealogical minds not in their hearts. Though i may disagree with some issues that does not mean I will ever betray my party loyalty for being a clinton loser.
I say good riddance to spoiled meat, they dont deserve to be in any public office thats for sure, if they can be swayed with such little effort they have no right to serve the people of this nation.
Not as PROMINENT as
Not as PROMINENT as "Prominent Republican to Endorse Obama"
Who?
Colin Powell :)
Talk about lack of judgment ...
These two should be stripped of any and all Democratic credentials they have.
To go off on the road they chose out of childish spitefulness shows they lack character as well as judgment.
You think Congress controls the SCOTUS?
You have another "think" coming very soon if McInsane is elected and appoints the next two or more justices.
Take a class on government. It will open your eyes.
Obama for Dog Catcher
I am a lifelong Democrat, and you couldn't pay me to vote for Obama.
McCain for President 08
Obama for Dog Catcher 08
It's not easy!
I'm a Democrat, who can't vote for Obama, either.
Great Point Sarah Jane
I think you are right on point. I'm glad that people are brave enough to call it like it is. But I never thought there wouldn't be hesitancy among white working class whites to an Obama presidency. It's going to be a long process, but I think the only way to confront and fight racism is to confront people about it. Keep up the good work.
Carolina girl is correct
Hell, skin-heads and the Klan vote, but who cares what they think either? I guess some of these folks feel that the most loyal Democrats can VOTE for a Democratic president, but they can't BE one.
response to bitter
hmm...bitter and still clinging.
I'm a libertian for Barr but it seems to me that you have the racism problems, not the Obama supporters. They're merely pointing out the complete lack of logic in such a jump and questioning that you're being truthful in saying that there IS logic in it...but you know how it goes...the guilty party screams the loudest.
Also blacks always voted for a democrat by 90% or so...was it racism when they voted in that margain for Bill Clinton, Al Gore, or John Kerry? Ha...of course not.
It'd be like in a 1980 election as a conserative being unhappy about Reagan and then jumping to Carter because I trusted his "judgment". What a joke...
Also, none of the democrats think he's a "messiah". They just happen to prefer him over McCain because of him following the democratic platform like *GASP* every other democratic presidental candidate!
Sincerely, your friendly libertian laughing at the democratic divide.
Matt, You're on to me! I
Matt,
You're on to me! I just got back from the Amerikkka Meeting down at Denny's where we have our secret meetings on Friday afternoon. I should not have tried to pass off my overt racism without knowing that a crafty Barr man wouldn't catch on. Good job!!
I agree that African Americans voted for Gore, Kerry, and Bill Clinton in large numbers. That is a statement of fact. Isn't possible or even likely that they threw their support to those white democrats given that there was no real alternative, if in fact, they we voting Dem?
Now personally I am an independent so I am sure you and I would share a large number of points of agreement on issues. I also am enjoying the division of the Dems, if for no other reason that it makes good theater.
But I may be off kilter because I voted for Ross Perot twice. Anyway, These calls of racism, even the ones I alluded to in my earlier post are pointless anyway. We will have an election and the people will vote. We will have a new president either way. I am sure that is good news for all of us. I just would prefer it wasn't Senator Obama. Most likely I will be disappointed but NOT because of the color of his skin.
That's a shame, the truth is
That's a shame, the truth is that these people aren't real democrats, a real democrat can't vote for McBush, a guy whose values and policies are 100% opposite to ours, how can a democrat vote for a guy who wants to leave our troops in Iraq for the next 100 years ? Who opposed equal pay for women ? Who wants to continue Bush's taxes for the wealthy, the same taxes he criticized before running for the Rep nomination ?
McCain't has no values, no solutions for our problems, he doesn't even have a single policy to help students with the high cost of college tuition, the true democrats and women will never vote for him; these people can vote for him if they want, their voices won't be enough come November, I've been volunteering for Barack for weeks now, this election will provide big surprises this November.
when fitzgerald catches up
when fitzgerald catches up to slum-lord obama and the illinois gov., maybe you ovomit supporters will be forced to admit he is a dirty politician that lies, cheats and will throw all of you under the bus that has now grown the size of texas. and if you get tired of that scandal, there are plenty more to choose from. and of course, dont forget about how he voted on gun issues in the senate and on record and now he lies about it. mccain 08. because i am a democrat that believes in our u.s. constitution, not kenya's.
So?
Who gives a 'hoot'? Never heard of these
"Dems" and who gives a 'hoot' about New Hootshire?
McCain or Hillary...
BHO is not a choice... Just ponder the familiar phrase "tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are"... All I need to list are Mr. Ayers, Ms. Dohrn, Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger, Mr. Rezko and a few other terrorists and dictators that want BHO as president. I could never cast a vote for an unqualified candidate with major lapses in character and judgment. I'll think of my Country first, Party second.
Right
And George W. Bush is a gift from Allah to Osama bin Laden.
I, too, am a Democrat that
I, too, am a Democrat that will be voting for McCain over Obama.

Thank you.
But don't tell these Stepford-like, can't-think-for-themselves Obamabrats and Democrat party slaves anything that actually makes sense. Logic will cause their peabrains to explode.
Just look at the brat attacks going on in this thread - comming from spoiled, silly Kool-aid drinkers who are throwing tantrums over fellow Americans who have decided to endorse a far more experienced candidate for the Presidency.
I can't wait for John McCain to win so that this insane Obama nightmare will be over.
(Oh, and save the insane "racist" crap for someone else. I'm African-American. And I won't be voting for Mr Flim-Flam Obama in November. We don't all think the same.)
I live in NH and have never
I live in NH and have never heard of these two people.
I am an over 60 white female voting for Obama and I was never for Hillary. I can't believe all the hate from the Repugs on this site.
Valery Mitchell and public donor records
Valery Mitchell's support of John McCain is not a consequence of the nomination of Barack Obama for the Democrats.
Public records indicate that she donated to McCain in the first quarter of this year, well before the Democratic Primary was over.
Any attempt by McCain or Mitchell to spin her support of McCain as an anti-Obama choice, rather than simply her decision to leave the Democratic Party in early 2008 to support the Republican John McCain is bogus.
haaaaaaa... ovomit! that's
haaaaaaa... ovomit! that's soo funny! aren't you clever. by the way, it was rezko who was the slum lord, not obama. don't get carried away now.
Prominent Dems to lead McCain group
Awesome!
People supporting their country FIRST, before the hijacked Party.
After Hillary, McCain or Nader take office, we will DEMAND they hose down the DNC to remove the feces that currently loiter in the halls. Dean, Pelosi and Brazile, this means you!
Valery Mitchell and public donor records
As to your comment, it seems that you are unaware the primary was FIXED.
She will probably one day write a book detailing the corruption of the DNC, but for now we just have to do the math to see what happened..And they b-tched when it happened to them in Florida.
Hypocrites
Ummm, McCain is friends with
Ummm, McCain is friends with Bush. How's that for judgement
two PROMINENT democrats?
Was listening to the news...the were speaking of someone who could entice the masses with his words, hypnotize the masses..
I thought they were speaking of NObama...NOPE
They were speaking of David Koresh in Waco and Jim Jones in Guyana.
Starpower?? All that glitters is not gold
..it is FOOL'S GOLD!
Republican for Obama
I've been a life-long Republican. I proudly voted for Goldwater in 1964. Today's Republicans wouldn't know what to do with Goldwater.
McCain is a flip-flopping war-monger, who will continue to run up our national debt until we're owned, lock, stock, and barrel, by China.
It's not experience. It's judgement. If you want experience, vote for Cheney and Rumsfeld. Republicans really need to think about what they stand for.
nonsense
The primary wasn't fixed... if it was Hillary fixed it. Obama was the long shot at the beginning of this process, Hillary's people made these friggin rules over the last 20 years. But the rules were the rules. I know you think it was a close primary but O was up 120 (what he won by) in Feb. This thing has been over for months. No one cheated anyone.
J
racist so called dems
These were no democrats from the begining that were just republicans in democratic clothing. This proves how dumb they really are. They are voting along racial lines and too chicken to admit it. Hillary had no more experience than Obama. If experience means anything the Bush adminstration would not have made such a diaster it did of our government.
Dems who support McCain
Save us from our friends. What Democrat in good conscience supports this man who has demonstrated comtempt for women's rights, remarkable insensivity to veteran families, and antiquated, disproven visions of economic philosophy. So where are Kerry and Dodd's influence now???
