New Hampshire Young Democrats Unveil
"603 Forward: The Campaign to Elect Young Democrats"
Over Two Dozen NHYDs Running for State Representative
Manchester, NH (June 30, 2008): New Hampshire Young Democrats (NHYD) President Garth Corriveau introduced Young Democratic candidates for state representative today and was joined by and men and women from across the Granite State to unveil "603 Forward: The Campaign to Elect Young Democrats." "603 Forward" is the NHYD campaign to promote and support the 31 young Democratic candidates running for State Representative.
"NHYD is committed to bringing fresh, new perspectives and judgment to our state government in 2009 and that starts with electing Young Democrats to office this November. No generation has more at stake in this election than New Hampshire's young adults," said Corriveau. "Over the last several elections, young adults have become a crucial voting bloc in New Hampshire."
The Democratic Party has seen growing turnout over the last several elections and the young members of our party that have played a major role in the new energy and excitement around the Democratic Party. The 31 young Democrats running for State Representative are the most to run in recent memory and far more than the "handful" of young Republican candidates. Meanwhile, young adults made history in the 2008 "First-in-the-Nation" New Hampshire Primary comprising over 16% of the electorate, which was a larger percentage of the vote than senior citizens for the first time.
"Just like everyone else, I have been inspired by the incredible Democratic candidates that stand at the top of the ticket," said Douglas Lindner, candidate for State Representative from Manchester and the Chair of the NHYD Young Candidates Caucus. "With Sen. Barack Obama, Gov. Jeanne Shaheen, Gov. John Lynch, Rep. Paul Hodes and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, leading the Democratic Party in New Hampshire, young voters have good reason to be inspired and we are looking forward to working alongside them to help put our state and our country back on the right track."
Young Democrats are voting and running for office in record numbers. As a result of this enthusiasm, N.H. Young Democrats are organized, united and ready for change. The 31 Young Democrats running for State Representative are listed below.
