Today in the U.S. Senate race

Editors note: This is a daily summary of news about the U.S. Senate race between U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) and former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).

Today in the Senate race the Politico asked if Sununu is running on empty, the New Hampshire Hospital Association comes to Sununu's defense and tomorrow the Professional Fire Fighters Association will endorse Shaheen.

The Politico profile of Sununu begins "droplets of sweat dot the back of John Sununu's checkered blue shirt, open at the collar, as he zigzags through the Wolfeboro Fourth of July Parade. The road is lined with thousands of red shirts, American flags and folding chairs" and ends with "His spokeswoman calls a few minutes later to say that the senator apologizes for rushing off. He was sick of being chased, she says, by the young Democrat with the camcorder."

The New Hampshire Hospital Association says that criticism of Sununu's vote, on Medicare reimbursements, is "unfair and misplaced."

Today, Shaheen toured a chemical lab in Durham and tomorrow the Professional Fire Fighters of New Hampshire will endorse Shaheen.

Shaheen also e-mailed supporters encouraging them to volunteer for her campaign and released a video of her supporters marching in Fourth of July parades.
