Shea-Porter files VA hospital bill

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-PorterU.S. Rep. Carol Shea-PorterU.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester) has filed legislation that would require a full serviced VA hospital in the Granite State.

New Hampshire is the only state that does not have a VA hospital and establishing one has become a campaign issue for every federal candidate.

Shea-Porter's bill, titled "The Veterans Equity Health Act," would mandate the Veterans Administration to have a hospital in every state, in the lower 48, or allow veterans to receive "comparable services" through a local medical service.

"This legislation will ensure that veterans have access to at least one full-service hospital, or that they can receive care -- the same care they would get in a VA hospital -- within the State," Shea-Porter said. " This would mean that the VA would have to do one of two things, either restore the Manchester facility to a full-service hospital, or partner with more local health providers to find ways to make sure that our Veterans can receive the care they need, right here in New Hampshire."

Shea-Porter made the announcement at an American Legion Post in Manchester.

CSP on target

Pushing for a full serviced VA hospital in NH.

This means alot to many, vets and family members.

This is GREAT!

FINALLY there's a chance our NH vets will get the healthcare they deserve. Veterans' care shouldn't be a partisan issue imho, but there's a BIG difference this year between results & lip service.

Jeb always whines about CSP not supporting the troops when she's already filed a great bill and Jebby The Magnificent didn't do squat for vets that whole time in DC. That has-been will be lucky to make it past Stephen, let alone CSP.

Stunt???

So with 100 days left until the election, she files this bill? It is needed in New Hampshire, but why was it not filed within 100 hours of her getting to Washington? Me thinks it has to do with a recent UNH poll.

No stunt, just action

Chairman, House Veterans Affairs Committee Visits Manchester VAMC
On March 10, 2008, Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee Rep. Bob Filner, D-Calif., Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-N.H., and Rep. Paul Hodes, D-N.H., visited Manchester VA Medical Center. During the visit they toured the medical center and met with Marc F. Levenson, MD, director, Manchester VAMC, to discuss veterans’ access to VA health care in New Hampshire, especially acute inpatient services, and opportunities for improvement.

The representatives then met with the New Hampshire State Legislative Veterans Task Force at the State House in Concord, N.H.

There is much more, my skeptical friend. That is why vets from NH-1 are rallying around her.

Typical

Wingers aren't happy no matter what. How come St. Jeb never did this in his 2 terms?

Thank you Congresswoman

Thank you Congresswoman Shea-Porter for your continued hard work in DC. Best of luck in November!

Jeb failed

Why couldn't JebJeb get something like this done? He had a Republican House, Republican Senate and a Republican President when he was in office. Surely they could have helped secure full-service medical options for the veterans of NH. Instead, we saw just the opposite under his watch. Veterans who continue to support Bradley are merely partisan and not thinking with their heads about who will actually do the hard work to support their needs. Carol Shea-Porter is doing the work needed on behalf of all veterans.

Any word on vouchers?

Supposedly she promised vouchers to Howie Howe so they can get decent care. But as far as I can tell all she offers is more crummy socialized medicine. I think our veterans deserve better than that.

Supposedly?

You are clearly in the “dunno” zone.

I know veterans deserve more than Bush/McCain are prepared to provide. And so does CSP.
