Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) is calling on U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) to return money he has received from embattled U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska).
Stevens was indicted today on charges that he lied to investigators about money he received from an energy company based in his state.
The Shaheen campaign wants Sununu to return $45,000 he received from Stevens' Northern Lights PAC and $4,000 he has received from Veco, the oil pipeline company that is connected to Stevens.
"As yet another Republican official faces federal indictment, John Sununu is using tainted money from national Republicans to finance his campaign," Kate Bedingfield, communications director for the Shaheen campaign, said in a statement. "New Hampshire families want a Senator who is looking out for them, not taking thousands in campaign cash from corrupt national Republicans in the pocket of Big Oil."
As of this posting the Sununu campaign had not yet responded to a phone call and e-mail requesting comment.
Since 1998, U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) has also received $15,000 from Stevens' political action committee.
Update: “Team Sununu will be donating to charity the $10,000 received during this 2008 campaign cycle from Northern Lights PAC. The campaign had previously donated to charity contributions received from VECO employees who pled guilty to wrongdoing,” said Sununu's campaign manager Paul Collins in a statement.

Sen. Stevens inditement
Well, why I am not surprised! I knew managers at the Ketchikan and Sitka pulp mills that complained, when the mill shut down, that while their retirement and severance pay was stopped, Senator Stevens, Rep. Makousky, Tongass and National Forest Supervisors and some staff were still receiving from the logging corporation Louisiana Pacific up to $2.1 million every year to keep their mills going. I just bet more will be found in this “Bridge to Nowhere”.
Sen. Stevens Indictment
This is why the Republicans were hurting before the 2006 elections across America. Too many RINO's mucking up what real Republicans have been trying to do. Protect the people of America by removing the corrupted system and representing the people the way it was ment to be. For the people, by the people. JFK said it best "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country".
Dear RoberT
Ted Stevens is the most powerful GOP member of the US Congress. He's served longer than any Republican. For you to dismiss him as a RINO is hilarious - he's the epitome of a Republican! Conservative and corrupt as hell.
Shaheen should return money to Sony and NH worker to job
Jeanne Shaheen should give the money she got from Sony (Corporate Counsel)Aug 2002, while governor with power over the State of NH, the NH Department of Labor, and Compensation Appeals Board to disabled workers charity. After a NH worker was diagnosed with 'lithium toxicity', 'chemical exposure' and more Feb. 2001 from a leaked and shorted Sony lithium ion battery. Sony went on to have 'the largest recall in consumer electronics history', more than 10 million batteries, the recall cost Sony / Dell more than $450 millon dollars. More than 660 incidents, more than 90 with human health effects. Shaheen accepted the money during ('request for hearing declined') hearings (?) within NH State government.
Jeanne Shaheen husbands lawfirm (Mr. Jeanne, ex.judge) Shaheen, and Gordon represented Sony and claimed the NH worker had already his chance to be heard by his wife's administration so he should not be heard in a US Court. The legal fees paid to the Shaheens should also be contributed to disabled workers charities.
Mr. Jeanne Shaheen also held positions of power and authority in the Democratic party which got and distributed money from Sony.
The US Constitution provides for separation of power, not concentration in the branches of the Shaheen (conflicted) family tree.
The lawfirm of Shaheen and Gordon was active in workers compensation cases while Jeanne Shaheen was governor. How many other NH workers and thier families were affected by the undisclosed personal and financial conflicts?
NH worker wants due process, a long overdue jury trial, his job and benefits back.

I've always had great respect for Gov. Shaheen, but the manner in which she id conducting herself is disgusting to say the least. If you ask me it looks like she has sold out to the Washington elite and in doing so she's adopting their way of doing business.
