Update: Phillies qualifies for N.H. ballot

Despite not gaining his party's presidential nomination, Massachusetts Libertarian George Phillies has qualified to appear on the New Hampshire ballot.

According to the Secretary of State office Phillies has collected 3,369 signatures, surpassing the threshold required by law.

The national Libertarian Party endorsed former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr (Lib.-GA.) at their party's convention over the Memorial Day weekend in Denver and the New Hampshire Libertarian Party is currently in the process of collecting signatures for Barr so his can also appear on the November ballot.

"We were collecting signatures [for Phillies] but I think we should go along with the national party," Brendon Kelly, chairman of the New Hampshire Libertarian Party, told PolitickerNH.com earlier this month.

Libertarian candidates have also qualified for the U.S. Senate, the 1st and 2nd congressional districts and a variety of seats for state representative.

Candidates have until August 6th to hand in signatures too local election officials.

Update: "Being nominated for President is the highest honor a political party can bestow on one of its members. I am deeply honored by the action of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire," Phillies said in an e-mail. "I plan to campaign vigorously to put the Libertarian message of peace, freedom, and prosperity before the American people. I may not win, but my campaign can and will be used to build a stronger and more effective Libertarian Party."
