NH HOUSE DEMS REPORT ROBUST FUNDRAISING
(Manchester) The group responsible for electing Democrats to the New Hampshire House of Representatives has raised almost $200,000 in this election cycle, according to reports filed yesterday with the New Hampshire secretary of state.
The Committee To Elect House Democrats reported raising $14,235 in new revenue from June 18 to Aug. 18. The group has raised $194,189 since the last election cycle.
Over 300 contributors made donations to the committee. The average contribution was $184.
"We are really proud but not surprised with these numbers. The Democratic caucus has done great work in this legislative session, and the high regard people have for this work is reflected in these fundraising figures," Rep. Mary Jane Wallner, co-chair of the Committee To Elect House Democrats, said.
The committee has $72,890 cash on hand.
In 2006, Democrats gained majority status in the New Hampshire House for the first time since the 1920's. This year, the committee recruited 384 candidates to run for 368 of the 400 seats up for grabs in the House.
This number is expected to increase because a number of Democrats are running write-in campaigns.
Republicans filled only 324 House slots with 364 candidates.
"When you combine our record-breaking candidate recruitment effort with this robust fundraising effort, it sends a clear message that Democrats are in a strong position to retain control of the House and to continue to pass legislation that helps working families in New Hampshire," according to Terie Norelli, speaker of the New Hampshire House.
