State Rep. Jim Ryan (D-Franklin) has been removed as chairman of the House Transportation Committee and as co-chair of the Committee to Elect House Democrats.
"I was shocked and saddened to learn of the charges against Rep. Ryan. It is critically important the public have confidence in the integrity of the legislative process," House Speaker Terie Norelli said in a statement. "That is why I have taken immediate action and removed Rep. Ryan as chair of the House Transportation Committee. He will be replaced by the committee's vice chair, Rep. Robert Williams of Concord."
Norelli also announced state Rep. Frank Davis (D-Pembroke) will replace Ryan as co-chair of the committee charged with helping to elect House Democrats.

Why hasn't Norelli asked for
Why hasn't Norelli asked for his resignation yet?
the right thing
Good for the house speaker for removing Ryan from leadership positions. It was the right thing to do.
The town of Franklin will have to decide if they want Ryan to resign as their rep.
Of course.. we don't know if he is guilty of the charges... but, if they are true, I would hope that he does choose to resign without being pressured.
He was found GUILTY of
He was found GUILTY of FORGERY. The only reason he is jailed right now is because he didn't pay the agreed restitution from the forgeries. There is no debate over whether or not he forged the checks. The democrats knowingly put someone guilty of forging checks as the House Transportation Committee and the Committee to Elect House Democrats.
Maybe that should be the Committee to Elect Unethical or Criminal House Democrats.
NHGOP has lost its mind
Speaker Norelli acts swiftly and completely and the NHGOP youngsters cry like babies.
Meanwhile disgraced former speaker Chandler is the number two Republican in the House.
Convicted felon Chuck McGee is running the Republican election effort.
Multple GOP elected officials in jail but they cry about Norelli.
Got to love those clowns over on Water St.
gene chandler
i don't think you can call gene disgraced... there's not a person in the legislature republican or democrat who doesn't love the guy.
Gene and Jim -- Good People
I will add that I do like Gene Chandler. He, as well as Jim Ryan, are good people who made some errors. That's not to excuse what they have done, but let's put into perspective that human beings do make mistakes, then move on. We're all in this adventure called life.
Ryan
Is Ryan still in jail?
RYAN
I am very sorry for the horrific problems Rep.Ryan finds himself in. Recall Judge Not Least You Yourself be Judged - Obviously Jim cannot continue on in the Legislature with all this hanging above him. This all sounds like a
messy divorce - but we've ONLY heard one side thus far ---Ironic isn't it a man can be applauded who allowed a woman to drown - a former President travels the world with George Bush Senior (again lauded) who disgraced the Oval Office with his disgusting exploits/lies - the present man in office started an illegal war/ with hundreds of thousands of dead - and so it goes. I wonder how many will reach out and try to help Jim/ counsel etc. I'm fearful that he's pretty discouraged / depressed etc - nobody is beyond forgiveness and love.
