Cindy McCain stresses N.H. roots, praises Spaulding

MINNEAPOLIS-- Speaking before a joint breakfast of the New Hampshire and South Carolina delegations, Cindy McCain thanked a prominent Granite State supporter for his efforts during the primary. McCain also discussed when her son Jimmy landed in Pease and was met by the Pease Greeters, a group that welcomes soldiers who land at the Air Force base.

McCain personally thanked Peter Spaulding, the campaign's New Hampshire co-chair, for his efforts during the primary.

"I see him back there, Peter Spaulding pay attention, wake-up," McCain joked. "Peter thank you and so many others in New Hampshire, we feel like we know so many of the New Hampshire delegation personally because we were up there so much and spent so much time up there."

McCain continued: "Peter you did exactly what so many other people in here did. When the days were dark, you came to both of us and said ‘it's going to be ok, the American people are going to wake-up and see who truly should be president.' You were always upbeat, you were always friendly, you always kept me going. So thank you Peter for all you have done for your state and for this country."

McCain also recounted the day that her son's plane made an emergency landing at the Portsmouth International Airport at Pease.

"You all were so kind at Pease Air Force Base to take them in and feed them and give them cell phones, that's how I knew where my son was," McCain said. "So I wanted to thank this opportunity to thank all of you from New Hampshire that did greet those young men who came in because as a parent as one of those who didn't know where my son was I thank you for that because I was a bit upset that day."
