Ad Watch: Shea-Porter Falsifies Her Energy Credentials
A Loyal Soldier of the Drill-Nothing Congress, Shea-Porter Now Claims Otherwise in False Ad

Washington – In her new television ad, Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) claims, “We have to do something right now about energy prices.” She even claims she supported drilling to lower the cost of gaolsine. However, Shea-Porter neglects to mention that she voted against pro-drilling legislation on multiple occasions and just recently, she voted twice to take a five-week vacation while New Hampshire voters have been waiting for Congress to act.

Shea-Porter’s abysmal record on energy independence speaks for itself. In less than two years in Congress, Shea-Porter:

  • Voted against comprehensive energy legislation that would allow offshore and ANWR drilling and promote energy efficiency and alternative fuels. (Roll Call, 831, 2007)
  • Voted against lifting the ban on offshore oil and gas drilling. (Roll Call 553, 2007)
  • Voted to block consideration of a bill that would establish new refineries, allow energy exploration in ANWR and the Outer Continental Shelf, and provide incentives for alternative energies.  (Roll Call 391, 2008)

She also claims to have authored a bill to help families who can’t afford to heat their homes in the winter, but her record on that is even scarier:

  • Voted to fund earmarks for union organizations, while at the same time scaling back the proposed increase in home energy funding for low income families (Roll Call 1050, 2007)
  • Voted to prevent a new energy facility from being built that would provide up to 35% of the heat needed for New England’s homes and businesses (Roll Call 507, 2008)

“For Carol Shea-Porter to claim we need to do something now is the height of hypocrisy,” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “She had no problem voting continually against drilling and increased domestic energy production while voting to give herself a five-week vacation. She can use all the lofty rhetoric she wants but she can’t hide from her anti-drilling record.”
