DERRY--The New Hampshire Republican convention has rejected the proposed 2008 party platform, an effort organized by the New Hampshire Reagan Network.
Delegates overwhelming approved a motion, on a voice vote, that they reject the 2008 platform and instead continue with the platform approved in 2006.
Before the convention the New Hampshire Reagan Network distributed a pamphlet that said they urged the delegates to reject the 2008 platform because of a lack of public hearings and questions over the process that went into adapting the platform.
"There will be no harm keeping the current platform and the potential for all kinds of problems if we abruptly abandon a document that has been carefully honed over many years," the petition read in bold letters.
Delegates are currently debating amendments to the 2006 platform.

Reagan Network Rocks
Who says Fran Wendleboe isn't a leader?
Reagan Network rocks!
While the Reagan Network was
While the Reagan Network was very helpful in providing copies of the old platform to the delegates, there were many, many people opposed to just scrapping the old platform. Thanks to Fran & Sam for their help, but it was not them alone.
yes, you're right
Yes, you're right.
It is great to see the GOP faithful come together to save the platform that best represents the ideals of the GOP party.
As a conservative
As a conservative Republican, I was disgusted at the convention today. Instead of working to elect Republicans, the Reagan Network chose to create imaginary conspiracy theories about phantom liberals usurping the platform.
Fran should just stick to supporting pro-abort candidates like she did in the 1st CD primary this year! What a fraud!
What's the conspiracy?
For those of us who were unable to make Saturday's cage match, what's the conspiracy? In other words, please report.
Jeb Bradley pro-abort?
Jeb Bradley pro-abort? let's see, in Congress he voted to ban partial birth abortion, FOR parental notification, and for it to be a crime to transport a minor across state lines to circumvent parental consent laws? Hmmmm. How many VOTES has John Stephen cast?
Fran a fraud for supporting reformed Jeb because some deem him not "perfect" enough?
Does anyone challenge that Jesse Jackson, Walter Mondale, and Mike Dukakis are anything but RABID pro-choice? Then how about asking oh so pure John Stephen why he supported all three of them! OK for John to support rabid pro-choicers and not for Fran to reward Jeb for having a change of heart on major areas of the life plank?
Don't give the Reagan network too much credit...
Many of us thought the newly proposed platform was a tad watered down heading into the Convention, and I have to agree with StrongGOPer that while Fran was extremely helpful in distributing the old platform, many of us not affiliated with her had the same thought (revert back to the 2006 platform)...give them credit for organizing their efforts to get something started, but it was the consensus of the party as a whole (even outside of her influence) that saved the day.
I wouldn't say there wasn't
I wouldn't say there wasn't any sort of "imaginary conspiracy theories about phantom liberals usurping the platform" at all. I had conversations throughout the week with quite a few Republicans asking about the new platform....not once was it Fran, Sam Pimm or anyone from the NH Reagan Network. They were likely talking with the people they talk to more frequently...just as I was. There were a large number of delegates who thought that there was no need to change the format of the party platform so drastically so quickly. Fran & NH Reagan Network were very helpful with providing copies of the prior platform in the case that the new version was not accepted. It wasn't. It was a little confusing for a while but hardly one faction against another. Actually, my impression was there are more Republican delegates that stand for the strong principles in our platform than I might expect. That was good to see....a room of hundreds of Republicans who overwhelmingly believe that we are the party of limited government, personal freedom, and personal responsibility.
Oh Tammy..chuckle, chuckle
The GOP is the party of big government.
Big deficits. The last eight years turned US of A into a debtor nation to CHINA!!
Big Brother. Wiretapping its citizens without warrant?
Big intrusion. Preventing women control of their own bodies, deciding who can marry.
Big corruption. How many Republican leaders are or have been in federal prison?
Big oil. How many billions in tax cuts for big oil? How big was their profits?
Big money. At no time in American history have the richest 1% control so much (40%) of the economy. The disparity is killing our economy.
Big payoffs. How manybillions have been paid to GOP donors through contracts, side deals and payoffs?
Surprised
Tammy, I'm surprised to read that you didn't talk to me last week, since you were on the conference call when I explained in detail what my strategy was and the 2 back-up plans in case we were not successful with the first.
Our working group had been meeting for weeks on the platform. I recruited Paul Mirski to be the floor leader and Steve Winter to be our parliamentarian. We made several hundred phone calls to inform the delegates what was happening with the platform.
Yes, there are many people and groups who can share the credit for saving the platform. But it was the result of a well organized effort, not a spontaneous, unplanned uprising.
Fran Wendleboe
I think Fran Wendleboe has lost credibility after her collusion with Jeb Bradley in leveling false and misleading attacks against John Stephen in the primary.
If Fran were a true Reagan conservative, she would have stayed out of this fray rather than help a big spending neocon like Jeb Bradley beat a fiscal conservative like John Stephen, who espoused the beliefs of Reagan on the campaign trail.
