Shea-Porter Ad Continues Assault on Honesty
Cozies Up to Lobbyists and Calls it ‘Change’

Washington- Carol Shea-Porter is on the air with a new ad that is just the latest in a string of whoppers dealt to the people of New Hampshire. This time, Shea-Porter has the audacity to claim that she stands with the middle class, voting for tax cuts and refusing to take donations from lobbyists. Shea-Porter, apparently, doesn’t expect voters to do their homework, because if they did, they would discover that the claims in this ad are demonstrably false.

According to Federal Elections Commission reports, Shea-Porter’s claim that she never took money from lobbyists is blatantly untrue – Shea-Porter collected donations from registered lobbyists throughout her first year in Congress.

And a look over Shea-Porter’s record shows that she is no friend of the taxpayer. In her short tenure in Congress, Shea-Porter has:

  • Voted to pass a House budget that paves the way for the largest tax increase in American history; (House Roll Call 212)
  • Voted for a $7.5 billion tax increase that threatens over 5 million American jobs; (House Roll Call 746)
  • Voted against permanently repealing the death tax; (House Roll Call 959)
  • Voted repeatedly to block consideration of a bill that would make the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts permanent. (House Roll Call 186, 192, 194)

“Somehow, Carol Shea-Porter has the audacity to refer to her business-as-usual politics as ‘change,’” said NRCC spokesman Ken Spain. “Shea-Porter has spent her first term in Congress cozying up to special interests, toeing the Democrats’ out-of-touch party line, and hiking taxes on New Hampshire voters. After two short years, it’s obvious that Carol Shea-Porter is part of the problem in Washington.”
