Clean energy topic of the day in Senate race

Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) and U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) both focused on clean energy today.

Sununu announced in a press release today that he is a sponsor of the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act. The act would extend tax credits for renewable energy sources and provide tax incentives to improve energy efficiency.

"These renewable energy tax credits help lower this burden and represent smart investment policy for our environment. Most important, the bill makes good sense for New Hampshire where our wood, biomass, and wood pellet industries here have provided jobs across the state," Sununu said.

Meanwhile, Shaheen took her clean energy message to Claremont and Lebanon.

"We need to invest in research and development like this to expand our alternative energy options," Shaheen said in a statement.  "We need to end the billions of dollars in subsidies to oil and gas companies and give tax breaks to companies like Mascoma who are developing clean energy alternatives."

Shaheen visited the Mascoma Energy Corporation in Lebanon and the Earl Bourdon Center in Claremont.
