Statement of Jeanne Shaheen on Jay Buckey's Decision to Withdraw from Senate Race

Dartmouth Medical School professor Dr. Jay Buckey announced this morning he is withdrawing from the U.S. Senate race citing a lack of campaign funds.

Buckey (D-Hanover) entered the race about a year ago when the field of Democratic opponents looked much different. Now with him out of the race former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen no longer faces a primary opponent.

Both were competing for the right to take on freshman U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu this fall. At the end of the year Buckey had $30,000 in the bank while Shaheen and Sununu had millions.

The Democratic Party Thins Their Herd

So, the great and powerful Democratic Party, who have done so much for our state by running it into debt, have succeeded in getting another prospective Senatorial candidate out of the way so that Shaheen can be the "anointed" one and have smooth sailing all the way to her defeat in November.

It is ironic: instead of trying something new, which is working at a national level with Barack Obama, the state's branch of the DNC instead must reach back six years to a has-been who has done little to nothing except keep out of the public limelight so that she could run on a clean slate... except for that little problem she has in that while governor she did little to nothing as well and left a bigger mess than the one she found.

Best of luck to any other Democrats who decide to run against those chosen few (such as those who are the spouses of Clinton campaign managers, for instance). If you're not with "them," they'll get rid of you, even if you think you're on their side!
