New Hampshire Republican Party Chairman Fergus Cullen has responded to allegations that the Republican Governors Association (RGA) has been conducting "push polling" against Governor John Lynch.
Cullen argued that the polling is a sign that "Lynch has vulnerabilities."
"The fact that someone is doing polling is proof that Gov. Lynch has vulnerabilities. Is he more vulnerable because he increased the state budget 17 percent, or because his mismanagement lead to a state budget deficit, or because he's raised taxes?"
Cullen also argued said that this type of polling has been conducted in the past.
"A) Lynch (or the Democratic Governors Association or the NH Dems) did vulnerability polling against Benson in 2004. B) Shaheen does this sort of polling on Sununu. C) Hodes did this sort of polling on Bass," Cullen wrote in an e-mail.
Cullen, nor the RGA, has stated who paid for the poll.
On the website "Blue Hampshire," Shaheen advisor Judy Reardon argued that it was not push-polling.
"It's not a push poll: Kathy Frankovic, director of polling for CBS News, provides a good explanation for the difference between push polling and a real poll that includes questions to test your opponents' vulnerabilities," Reardon wrote.
