Shaheen announces 'Republicans for Shaheen'

Former Governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) announced a group of 31 Republican New Hampshire voters who, rather than backing "a Senator who votes 90 percent of the time with a President whose policies have devastated our economy," are crossing party lines to support her campaign for U.S. Senate.

"This election is about the choice between more of the same old policies that have gotten us where we are today or a new direction that will get this economy working again for middle class families," said Shaheen. "When I was Governor, I worked with a Republican legislature to find real solutions for New Hampshire families."

Former state Sen. Rick Russman (R-Kingston) will serve as co-chair of the Republicans for Shaheen group.

"This is a critical election we are facing this fall," said Russman. "I'm supporting Jeanne Shaheen because she will work to get our economy moving again. She kept our tax burden the lowest in the nation.  And she worked across the aisle to do it. We need a new direction in Washington this fall and that is why I'm proud to support Jeanne Shaheen for Senate."

Steve Walter, a registered Republican who voted for George W. Bush in 2000 but supported U.S. Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004 and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) in the recent presidential primary, is the other co-chair of the group.

"For too long, John Sununu and George Bush have used their positions in Washington to put extreme ideologies ahead of science and common sense," said Walter. "I'm proud to be a Republican for Shaheen because she will bring new hope to millions of American families by investing in and encouraging the stem cell research that holds so much promise for new treatments and cures.  Jeanne Shaheen has the courage and leadership to take our country in a new direction and that's why I'm proud to support her candidacy for the Senate."

Shaheen is challenging incumbent U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley).

31 Dems That Changed Their Name for Publicity

These are all Dems who call themselves Republican because they voted that way once. I'm sure Sununu is quaking in his boots.

Shaheen's statement incorrect

Shaheen's claim that Sununu votes along party lines 90 percent of the time is incorrect.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/110/senate/party-voters/

He's only in line 84% of the time and if party line voting is a flaw then the Democrats should look at their own rubber stamps first before casting any stones...

Carol Shea Porter 98.2%
Paul Hodes 98%

Both of whom are nearly lock step in line with Pelosi and other California Democrats who certainly don't have the best interest of NH in mind.

the best Shaheen can do?

With almost 700,000 registered voters in the State, Shaheen can only find 31 "Republicans" willing to come across party lines?

Shaheen's "solutions for New Hampshire families" included:

-Being the first Governor of NH to double State spending

-Presiding over highschool dropout rates that reached 50%

-Failing to address the NH school funding issue, a problem which her lawyer/lobbyist husband created in the first place

-Going against her "No Tax" pledge

-Instituting the first-ever State-wide property tax for New Hampshire families

Not to mention Shaheen saying in 2002 "I'll stand with President Bush on national security, the war on terrorism and to disarm Saddam Hussein."

Shaheen said "I have supported the President in his efforts to disarm Saddam Hussein. I think Iraq poses a threat to the region; he poses a threat to our interests both abroad and here at home. And, I think it is important for the President to build support among our allies, to build support at the UN for what he's doing, but that fact is that Saddam Hussein over last 11 years has refused to obey 16 UN resolutions. He is a megalomaniac. He's been a threat to his own people. And we can't negotiate with him in the same way that we've been able to negotiate with the heads of other opposing nations."

Or how about when Shaheen said "I supported the Bush tax cut."

Steve Walter is a Democrat

In order for Steve Walter to have voted for Hillary Clinton in the presidential primary as he claims, he would have to be a Democrat. Republicans are not allowed to vote in the Democrat primary.

31 List

It would be very interesting to see who's on the list. How can we find out?
