Shaheen switches campaign managers, brings in Clinton campaign star

Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen switched out campaign managers for her U.S. Senate campaign in recent days, replacing her manager with a former rival, several sources tell PolitickerNH.com.

The switch occurred Friday.

Gone is Bill Hyers, the camera-shy field oriented guy who has been managing her campaign since November. Before coming to New Hampshire he worked on the John Edwards campaign in several states and also managed a come from behind win for Michael Nutter to become Philadelphia mayor. He also ran the campaign where Kirsten Gillibrand won an upstate New York Congressional race against a powerful four-term incumbent in 2006.

Hyers wasn't let go because of incompetence, but personality clashes, sources said.

The new manager is Robby Mook, who got his first taste of major politics here in New Hampshire serving as the deputy field director for Howard Dean. Prior to that he worked for two cycles in Vermont.

Most recently Mook ran several states for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. The state he worked the longest in was Nevada where he squared off against Hyers who was the Nevada state director for Edwards. Mook also was the state director in the critical state of Ohio for Clinton. Clinton won both states.

Why?

So she goes from a guy who has proven himself to a guy who was part of the self imploding Dean campaign.

Don't get this one bit.

Huh?

Shaheen's ahead by 10 points in the polls and she dumps her campaign manager? Go figure.

The same day her campaign announces that Bill Shaheen will come out of hiding. Is she trying to lose?

implosion

Her campaign is falling apart. She doesn't have the answer to her own campaign's most important issue which is gas prices. She can't address the NH hot-button issue of private union ballots vs the system of workplace intimidation called "card-check", she can't address her flip-flops on her support for massive spending, her support for the war in Iraq before she was against it, and her support of the Bush tax cuts... she can't address failing schools and astronomical dropout rates when she was Gov and now she's switching campaign managers. Time for the August implosion!

Kepp telling yourselves that!

That's right Ostrich/NHGOP, keep telling yourself how badly the Shaheen is doing. Yup, Johnny is doing just fine, relax, take off the summer. He will win again, no problem. Sununu's always win, this is Republican NH, he'll be fine...you are feeling sleepy...you are feeling sleepy...relax...now when I snap my finger wake up and imagine that Joe Kenney just won the governorship too!

Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!

You guys are hysterical! I almost crapped my pants laughing so hard, what a pathetic excuse of a party. Fergus should be arrested for impersonating a party chairman!

changing partners

How do you take the sheen out of Shaheen?

Howard who?

07/15/08 5:28 pm

Is this guy for real?

Buckley should be arrested for hiding behind names like "Truth be Known". How does that man have the time to blog all day? And a news flash Ray, PUBLIC in-fighting on www.bluehampshire.com isn't helping your party. From a quick glance at that site I see that you've angered the liberal base, the young folks, and every other dem who feels that dirty laundry should be thrown in the hamper, not published on a public website.

Trans Fat

"Truth be told" I want to bite your you know what off.

07/15/08 5:59 pm

Fergus is that you?

It really is unseemly for you to post on this site making silly attacks on Chairman Buckley. I know it must be tough for you. No money, no candidates, no energy, dropping polls and George W. Bush too! But seriously Fergus you really make yourself look foolish.

07/15/08 6:34 pm

Both men need a life.

I have even a better take on this. Both party chairman are losers for posting under false names.

Get a life you bums.

Fran: step away from the Buffet

Bitter, bitter Fran. Keep tellin ya self that ya "cuda bin a contendah" over and over...

07/15/08 9:43 pm

Robby Mook

Congrats to Jeanne...I am not a fan of Jeanne's politics and by no means a cheerleader for her. However, I will say she made a very intelligent decision in bringing on Robby Mook. After working with him in the past, I can say from experience he is one of the best in the field. I will even overlook the fact he worked for HRC. Congrats Robby! We are behind you 100%!!

07/15/08 9:51 pm

Why is she hiding?

If Jeanne Shaheen can't even answer a simple question then how can she be our Senator?

Probably the 2 most damaging Shaheen videos yet...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RpPww5GMC4

She is having her staff goons block the camera of a NH voter (and possible constituent). Her staff is afraid that she will say something harmful and have to keep her hidden, even at an open to the public town hall meeting in Deering. Jeanne Shaheen has been asked many times by potential constituents if she supports protecting workers rights and the secret ballot in the workplace and she refuses to even acknowledge the question or give a coherent answer. A town hall meeting is a place where a public official answers questions from voters/constituents, Shaheen can't understand that (or maybe it is that she is feeling the heat of the worker's rights issue)

Shaheen videos

Ouch! Those videos are pretty damning. It's funny to hear Shaheen's goon tell the mostly silent camera man that he has to leave as soon as he says anything after Shaheen denigrates him for about a minute.

keep dreaming

Whatever, the GOP has filed a pretty good slate this time, we have plenty of energized activists, and some decent fundraising too.

So I think it's the Dems who are stuck in a tax-and-spend dreamworld. Keep dreaming about budget shortfalls, Sales and Income Taxes, and absolutely no plans for addressing the tough issues NH faces in the near future.

New Hampshire is about to wake up from the Democrat nightmare!

07/16/08 12:46 pm

I agree completely. Bill

I agree completely. Bill Hyers has won all sorts of difficult races, and had this one poised to win. Who made this decision? It's pretty inexcusable.

The Dems are Shameful in Following Sununu

If any of you seen Sununu at an event lately, look for the Democrat's flunkie carrying a video camera and following Sununu's every move in hopes of catching him off-guard.
It's shameful what the Dems will stoop to. I saw him filming Sununu at a War Memorial event last month and then he tailed Sununu to 4 parades on the 4th of July. Pathetic!
I guess this is what Shaheen's money is being spent on.

LONDONDERRY "MAN"

First off, I find your title, "Fran, step away from the buffet" offensive. Personal attacks on appearance during political discourse is never acceptable. I may be fat, but my mind is sharp and my loyalty to what Republicans stand for is impeccable.

Second, I don't know what post on this subject you think I wrote, but you are mistaken. When I have something to say, I don't hide behind a false name. So Londonderry "Man", be "MAN" enough to own up to who you are to stoop to making fat comments about people.

Third, as to my being bitter, not at all. I moved on right after the election. It's made me a better person, opened new doors and horizons and we'll let the future judge the outcome. My concentration now is on electing good Republicans and especially to take back the house.

07/16/08 7:13 pm

Really?

This move seems to make perfect sense. You have a campaign that's been expanding it's huge lead, just finished the best fundraising quarter in New Hampshire history, looks like it has an incredible field operation, is getting terrific press, TV ads look great... and you get rid of the guy who has built and managed that operation in place of someone who has minimal experience actually managing a full campaign.

The person who posted "Who has the Guv's ear" is exactly right. If this race is even close on Election Day, mark this as the moment where things started to fall apart. In any case, us Shaheen fans can hold out hope that the operation that Bill Hyers built is strong enough to carry us through Nov 4. If it does, he deserves a lot of the credit.

07/16/08 8:37 pm

Robby Mook

Has Robby Mook ever even managed a race? Its a very different thing working on a Presidential campaign where you don't have to do any fundraising, handle overall message and strategy, or manage the candidate and their kitchen cabinet.

Thanks Governor TAXeen. You just gave us a great shot!
