State Board of Education member John Lyons is considering running for governor.
"There is no doubt we need a candidate that would get back to our Republican principles," Lyons said.
Lyons, a campaign advisor to U.S. Sen. John McCain, said he has been approached by state leaders to consider a run towards the corner office.
"I have been approached by state party leaders to consider a run for governor. I am humbled and honored to think that people think I could do a good job."
Lyons said though that he would consider his decision over the next week.
"To be honest I haven't spend time with my family talking about the decision and I'm focused on my job on the State Board of Education," he said. "I will spend the next week thinking about my decision."
Lyons is the founding partner of Lyons Law Offices, P.A. and is a resident of Portsmouth.
This news comes after Manchester Mayor Frank Guinta announced that he is not running for governor.
