U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) seems to have awed the Weekly Standard's contributing editor P.J. O'Rourke.
O'Rourke's piece, which appears in the magazine's most recent issue, examines Sununu's political philosophy and his approach to his position in government.
"I have a deep-seated belief that America is unique, strong, great because of a commitment to personal freedom--in our economic system and our politics," Sununu is quoted in the article. "We are a free people who consented to be governed. Not vice-versa."
Sununu also noted his support for local governments and lower taxes, as well as discussing his contempt for Guantanamo Bay and the original version of the Patriot Act's provision to detain persons indefinitely.
Sununu faces re-election this fall and will again meet a challenge from former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury).
