Demers St. Paddy's Day BreakfastCONCORD- The breakfast menu included eggs, bacon and lots of blarney.
Politicians from state Sen. Bob Clegg (R-Hudson) to Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton) were the subjects of jokes at this morning's annual New Hampshire Capital St. Patrick's Day Breakfast.
The breakfast is sponsored by The Demers Group with proceeds going to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHAD).
Though speakers included Lynch, WMUR-TV Political Director Scott Spradling and House Speaker Terri Norelli (D-Portsmouth) the best jokes came from Matt Zapel, a patient at CHAD.
Zapel lampooned Clegg for his recent weight loss by thanking the Hudson state senator for the extra suits, but said, "I don't think I'll never grow into them." Last year, Zapel famously declared he was going to challenge Lynch.
Lynch was also the subject of an observation by WMUR's Scott Spradling.
"Anyone else notice that since John Lynch has taken office we've had major floods every year," Spradling said.
Former Congressional candidate Gary Dodds was also the subject of many jokes.
"I heard Gary Dodds was supposed to be here but he got cold feet," said Senate President Sylvia Larsen (D-Concord).
While, Norelli took time to highlight the recent spat between Spradling and Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen.
"I did notice Fergus out in the parking lot and he did have a package with a ticking sound," Norelli said.
The money raised from the event will be used to fund CHAD's annual Christmas party.
