RGA forms NH PAC

The Republican Governors Association (RGA) has registered as a political action committee (PAC) with the state of New Hampshire.

According to the filings with the Secretary of State, the purpose of the committee is "to survey the people of New Hampshire about public issues and public officials, and possibly to support the election of a yet-to-be determined Republican gubernatorial nominee and/or oppose the election of a yet-to-be determined Democratic gubernatorial nominee."

After reports of "push polls," the RGA was ordered by the New Hampshire Attorney General to register as a PAC if it wanted to conduct political activities in the state. (link)

However, in a footnote in their filing the group says it did not break the law.

"This committee does not concede that it has made independent expenditures, nor does it concede that it is legally required to determine, let alone state, at this time what speed it will engage in at a future date. This committee merely reserves the right to make independent expenditures as detailed above."

The New Hampshire Democratic Party said the RGA "committed the same crime twice," and the Attorney General "needs to prosecute them."

"The Republicans can not be allowed to continue their pattern of breaking New Hampshire law without consequence," spokeswoman Pia Carusone said in a statement.
