John Sununu appeared Tuesday on the Mark and Danielle show and said that Cuba was drilling for oil off the coast of Florida.
At least this time he dropped China from his claim.

do you think Republican Senator Mel Martinez is right that there is no drilling going on there?
Even if this were true, WHICH IT ISN'T
Cuba is 90 miles off the coast of Florida, so 60 miles of the coast of Florida is closer to them.

Hey Doug
Doug, I see that you're running for office in Manchester, have you signed the NH Advantage Coalition's tax pledge affirming that you will not vote for a sales or an income tax in the NH General Court if elected?
How many Young Democrats have signed the pledge against a sales or income tax?
http://www.thenhadvantage.com
To my anonymous friend below,
First of all, speaking only for myself, I do not support a sales or income tax, particularly because I believe it doesn't make sense to levy new taxes during a recession. That said, I don't believe in political pledges. I don't think public officials and candidates should box themselves in with arbitrary language from special interests, even if they agree with the sentiments. Political pledges lower the quality and depth of the discussion and force us into a one-or-the-other argument, often heavily partisan. I don't like being told there are only two possible actions to address a problem. The only pledge I intend to take is an oath of office, and the only group I answer to is my constituents, not any group like the so-called "NH Advantage Coalition".
Speaking for the NHYCC, though, I have no idea how many of my fellow candidates have taken the pledge, nor do I have any intention of collecting that information, because as I said, these pledges are conceived to box candidates in.

Environmentalists love commies.
Mr. Linder, if elected I hope its not just a repeat of the last two years where 14 out of 31 state reps from Manchester showed up for less than 60% of the votes, with 7 reps missing every single vote.
Its too bad you wont sign the pledge but your language is apparent that you are a pro taxer as you use creative words saying you are against any broadbased tax during a recession. Well what if there wasn't an ecomonic downturn? Would you be in favor of one then?
As a ward 1 candidate I am interested on what your platform is.
As far as drilling goes, the environmentalists are OK with govt run drilling off of our coasts as they are not "greedy" firms trying to make a buck. Typical hypocrites.
Have fun Mr. Linder and I hope to get some insight on what fiscal experience you have.
This is going nowhere
Mike,
First of all, while I do intend to vote as much as I can (and to schedule other obligations around my legislative duties), we do have a citizen legislature in this state, and it is understandable that Representatives with full-time jobs cannot always make every vote. That said, Manchester has 34 State Reps, not 31, and I hope you won't hold some to higher standards than others based on party affiliation or anything else.
Meanwhile, I take it from your comparison of environmentalists (I am an environmentalist) to communists (I am not a communist, nor a communist sympathizer) and your use of anti-Democrat language like "pro-taxer", particularly when I've said I'm against new taxes (I'm for balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility), that you're pretty solidly Republican. That is, of course, your prerogative as a voter, but it doesn't seem this discussion is going anywhere. If you'd like more information on my candidacy, I encourage you to visit my website, douglindner.com (it's spelled L-I-N-D-N-E-R by the way, spelled differently the address won't work), or to email me.

My apologies Mr. Lindner, my
My apologies Mr. Lindner, my eyesight is getting bad in my old age.
The environmentalist comment was not directed towards you, but went after the overall article as radical environmentalist never complain about Cuba, Mexico, or even Brazil as the Govt controls the oil drilling. Whats the difference?
A republican? No, ive voted for both parties during my life, but I am a staunch opponent of people who want to spend like a drunken sailors, and people who come into NH to create silly legislation which they know would fail like the candy and balloon tax (which were introduced by new state reps).
How would balance the budget when the state faces a $200 million dollar shortfall? What ideas are you offering as NH has limited revenue sources...well three big ones on idividuals (property, interest, and state property tax) As a retired individual, I don't mind paying a property tax as i know my dollars are being used in my city, and not given to concord for them to dole out as they would like.
One last question? What will you offer that will be different from the 3 state reps currently in Ward 1 (Jeff Goley, Dan Sullivan and James Townsend) who are in your party?
Good luck.
Mike
Clueless
Doug, you're mistaken if you think resisting a Sales or an Income Tax is only for times of economic hardship. And as far as the "special interests" that are trying to "box you in", it's simply citizens, looking to prevent the growth of government (and its expenditures) and with that, more tax burdens.
If you're for balanced budgets, I would certainly expect you to step up, as a Democratic youth leader, to demand better from our Governor and legislators, who have spent us into submission. We are left to wonder if they are creating these budget shortfalls on purpose, to force us into a Sales or Income Tax.
Gov Lynch's budget increased spending by $475 MILLION, which is an increase of 17.5% and frankly that is not acceptable. I would hope that you have an appreciation for how serious this issue is to the continuing prosperity of New Hampshire.
By signing the pledge, you will make a clear statement to the voters of Manchester that you stand apart from your colleagues in the Democratic Party, who have proven their commitment to increases in spending, enormous budget deficits, and taking our State down the path of a Sales and Income Tax.
However, I don't expect much better from your coalition of Young Democrats, who obviously have a very poor grasp of the budgetary crisis their own party leadership has created.
Mike,
The three current Reps from Manchester, Ward 1 are Jeff Goley (D), Dan Sullivan (D), and Sandra Reeves (R). I have no intention of asking people not to vote for anybody, only to vote for me.
As for the state budget, the vast majority of the increase this year is due to non-discretionary items, and I think the Governor has done a good job making tough decisions to balance it this year. Meanwhile, the amount of money in question, that our state had to find in order to balance the budget, amounted to about half of one day of the war in Iraq, which leads me to wonder how anybody can see Republicans as being fiscally responsible. In the coming weeks and months, I'll be providing more details on specific issue proposals, and I suggest you watch my website for further updates.
Also, Mike, if I was mistaken in thinking you were a strict Republican, I apologize.
As for my anonymous friend below, I'll say only that "Doug, you're mistaken if you think resisting a Sales or an Income Tax is only for times of economic hardship." is a gross misrepresentation of my position, and I urge the reader to look at my earlier statements below.
