Sometimes the fireworks on a Sunday morning show doesn't come from the guests, but the host.
After 25 minutes spent introducing Republican Congressional candidates Jim Steiner and Jennifer Horn on WMUR's "Close-Up", host Scott Spradling wrapped-up the show by raising significant questions about New Hampshire Republican Chairman Fergus Cullen.
Cullen "had a rough week" Spradling said after Cullen found himself defending both his ban on Democrats videotaping Republican candidates and the Republican Governors Association use of polling in the state even though they were not a registered political action committee in the state.
But Spradling didn't stop there. He went on to say that Cullen was indeed "busy" hiring replacing positions at the state party and that Cullen is filling these positions with a number of former Mitt Romney staffers.
"This will increase accusations that Cullen was secretly helping Romney in the presidential primary," Spradling said. Spradling said that "activists" he talked with suggested they wanted Cullen replaced.
This is the first time that Spradling went after Cullen. On the "Close-Up" edition immediately following January state presidential primary, Spradling said he Cullen was the "big loser" in the process. The scolding was so dramatic that Republican ad man Pat Griffin said to the camera afterward that Cullen "needs to take Scott to dinner".
While on "Close-Up" Horn said that Washington was broken and that she agrees with the concept of term limits for members of Congress. Steiner said his military experience would help him represent New Hampshire residents in Congress.
New Hampshire Public Television's "NH Outlook" looked at the Granite State Fair Tax Coalition and their attempt at town meetings this week to make the state less reliant on property taxes.

I'm sure James meant "This is NOT the first time that Spradling went after Cullen."
Besides that, the accusation itself seem a bit off. As noted by another poster, the Romney people certainly are available, while the McCain people aren't.
I'm sure a lot of 'activists' want Cullen replaced, since he didn't exactly run unopposed for the job. There are always people willing to trash him so they can set themselves up for the job. He isn't perfect, but we have never had perfect party leaders, as far as I remember.
Unlike the Democrats, apparently. They must have excellent leaders who NEVER say or do anything out of line that is worthy of Mr. Spradling's ire.
and the McCain folks..
The McCain folks certainly aren't available for hire (he won).
I completely disagree with Scott's assertion that Fergus was secretly helping Romney. He was more than fair to all campaigns (big and small).
Spradling was out of place with his comments!
Spradling should take a look at the available people to hire these days. The Romney folks are from around here and have been available for hire since he dropped. The Huckabee workers just became available (long after Cullen needed to hire new staff) amd the Guiliani folks seemed to disappear into the ether. Tell me who he should hire?
I have seen nothing but an un biased, hard working, and smart Chairman in Cullen. Spradling probably just has a problem with him because Cullen chose to pull out of the WMUR debates after they wouldn't include all of the candidates! You tell me who is playing favorites?
