Discussing the 2009 Budget Conference, U.S. Sen. Judd Gregg (R-Rye) critized Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for purposing new federal programs.

"Because Senator Obama has proposed $300 billion of new spending in the first year of his presidency. He's proposed 187 new programs. We can only score 143 of them because the others weren't specific enough. But if you scored the 143, they added up to $300 billion of new spending just in the first year."
