CONCORD-Before Organization Day began, the Business and Industry Association gave awards to five state legislators they say supported the state's business community during the 2008 legislative session.

State Reps. Pam Price (R-Nashua) and David Hess (R-Hooksett) were awarded the BIA's Friend of Business Award along with state Sens. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester), Peter Bragdon (R-Milford) and Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester).

Manchester state senators rally crowd

MANCHESTER--The three Democratic candidates vying for the state senate in Manchester all used a familiar Barack Obama chant to close their speeches before 1,000 supporters.

Incumbent state Sens. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester) and Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester) joined Bob Backus (D-Manchester) in addressing a crowd assembled to hear President Bill Clinton speak at a "Unite for Change" rally.

DeVries fires up Clinton crowd

MANCHESTER--Speaking at a campaign rally for Barack Obama, state Sen. Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester) told the crowd to look toward the next four years when voting next week.  

"The question in this election is not are you better off than we were four years ago, I think we all know the answer to that question, the question is will this country be better off four years from now," DeVries said a rally featuring Hillary Clinton.

Candidates running for the three state senate districts held three separate debates on Manchester Community Access Media (MCAM).

In state senate district 16 Bob Backus (D-Manchester) debated state Sen. Ted Gatsas (R-Manchester), while in district 20 state Sen. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester) faced-off against Jason Sakellar (R-Manchester), but in district 18 Doug Kruse (R-Manchester) was alone, since state Sen. Betsi DeVries (D-Manchester) decided not to participate in their debate.
