Poll: Shaheen up 8 over Sununu

Former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen continues to lead U.S. Sen. John E. Sununu in their race for the Senate this year, a new poll out today suggests.

The Ramussen Poll gave Shaheen a 51 percent to 43 percent lead. The poll was taken Wednesday of 500 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percent.

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Breast Cancer Coalition has honored United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) with a “Certificate of Excellence” in recognition of his support in the fight to prevent breast cancer. New Hampshire representatives of the National Breast Cancer Coalition - Jane Edmunds, of Hollis, Nancy Ryan, of Lee, and Sue Holmes, of Hollis - presented Sununu with the award on Tuesday, April 29 in his Capitol Hill office.

Senator Webb's G.I. Bill will help veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, group of concerned veterans urge Senators Sununu and Gregg to support the bill
 
(Portsmouth, NH) – A group of concerned veterans met to discuss Senator Jim Webb's 21st Century G.I. Bill at Goodwin Park, mirroring a rally that took place in Washington D.C. yesterday. Senator Gregg and Senator Sununu have failed to support the G.I. Bill, and it is a growing concern to New Hampshire veterans. The group will meet to call on Senator Gregg and Senator Sununu to flat out reject the McCain substitute bill and support the 21st Century G.I. Bill.

Gregg, Sununu urge Bush to stop deposits into oil reserve

U.S. Senators Judd Gregg (R-Rye) and John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) have written a letter to President Bush urging the president to suspend deposits into the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

The New Hampshire senators joined 13 other Republican U.S. Senators in arguing that the move would help reduce oil prices.

            WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu (R-NH) today joined their colleagues in the Senate in writing to President Bush to request that the Department of Energy temporarily stop deposits of domestic crude oil into the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR) in an effort to ease record high gas prices.

U.S. Sen. John E. SununuU.S. Sen. John E. SununuNew Hampshire Republicans are beginning to ask: where is U.S. Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley)?

CongressDaily reports that Republican activists are worried that Sununu lacks a campaign structure and is allowing former governor Jeanne Shaheen to define the race.

"Sources in the state say Sununu is in the process of building his campaign now. Staffers are being hired and keys were distributed last week for a campaign headquarters due to open soon in Manchester," Erin McPike reports. "The approach, puzzling to say the least, has allowed Shaheen to define the race so far without having to defend herself or respond to his initiatives."

Human Rights Campaign makes NH one of 14 targeted Senate races

A national pro-gay rights group announced today they'll make the New Hampshire U.S. Senate race one of 14 races they will target this year with money and staff.

The Human Rights Campaign has endorsed former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen's attempt to beat incumbent Republican John E. Sununu.

In 2006, the group gave a significant amount of resources to New Hampshire.

Shaheen argues for phased withdrawal from Iraq

GOFFSTOWN- Senatorial candidate Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) laid out her national security priorities during a speech at Saint Anselm College.

Shaheen argued that American troops are in the middle of a civil war in Iraq and the United States should begin a phased withdrawal from the country.
