SUNUNU ATTACKS SHAHEEN, VOTES WITH BUSH AGAINST NEW HAMPSHIRE FAMILIES

Sununu attacks Shaheen, yet votes with the Bush White House to continue status quo energy policy that has resulted in record-high gas and food prices

(Manchester, NH) – Yesterday, John Sununu voted with the Bush White House and against closing the Enron loophole, which allows billion-dollar hedge funds and Wall Street traders to speculate on the cost of oil, artificially driving up the price of gas for New Hampshire drivers and generating bigger profits for the oil companies.  Then he attacked Jeanne Shaheen for being "out-of-touch."

SUNUNU THINKS $9,300,000,000,000 DEBT IS FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE

Makes absurd political attacks to distract from his steadfast support of Bush's disastrous fiscal and economic record

(Manchester, NH) - In a desperate attempt to cover up his record of marching in lock-step with George Bush's radically irresponsible fiscal policies, Sununu yesterday lashed out at former Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Jeanne Shaheen. After once again voting with Bush against the 2008 Farm Bill yesterday, Sununu attacked Shaheen and claimed his vote was based on fiscal responsibility, even though he has voted for every George Bush budget that has put the country into a $9.3 trillion national debt.

Sununu one of just 15 Senators to vote to continue Bush-Cheney energy policy that has resulted in record high gas and food prices

(Manchester, NH) – Today, John Sununu voted against the 2008 Farm Bill, which would expand key nutrition programs, including fruit and vegetable snack programs for kids and emergency funding for food banks, invest in energy independence and economic opportunity for rural communities and, as New Hampshire drivers struggle under record high gas prices, close the Enron loophole that is allowing reckless speculation by Wall Street traders to drive up the cost of gas in New Hampshire and across the country.  The bill also included $1 billion in funding to promote biofuels, including wood-based biofuels that would generate cleaner energy and create jobs in New Hampshire.

SUNUNU REJECTS VETERANS' MENTAL HEALTH CARE; REPORT INDICATES MENTAL ILLNESS AMONG VETS MUCH HIGHER THAN PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGED

(Manchester, NH) - CBS News reported last week that internal Veterans Administration documents show that the incidence of mental illness among veterans is much higher than publicly acknowledged, and that it's possible that more veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars may lose their lives to suicide than to combat. Despite the well-documented incidence of mental illness among veterans, John E. Sununu has voted against funding for veterans' mental health care, rejecting a 2005 proposal for $2.5 billion for veterans' mental health care.

(Concord, NH) - New Hampshire Democratic Party Chair Ray Buckley today called on Senator John E. Sununu to return $2,250 in donations from the disgraced Republican lobbying firm DCI Group. The group made headlines recently due to a Myanmar scandal and revelations that they had accepted $348,000 to lobby on behalf of Myanmar's military junta, and the firm also has a history of unethical activity in New Hampshire as its employees were consulted during the 2002 New Hampshire phone-jamming scandal.

THE NUMBER OF DISABLED VETERANS IS RISING, BUT SUNUNU HAS FAILED TO SUPPORT THEM

In addition to Sununu's 28 votes against funding for veterans' health care, he voted against funding the VA's prosthetics program for veterans who lost limbs in combat

(Manchester, NH) - Foster's Daily Democrat reported yesterday that the Veterans Administration expects the cost of caring for disabled veterans to double over the coming years from $29 to $59 billion. [Foster's Daily Democrat, 5/13/08] Despite this mounting challenge, John E. Sununu has consistently voted against programs for disabled veterans such as the VA's prosthetics program, and he has earned a paltry 35% legislative record in the Senate from the Disabled American Veterans.
