Bosse Responds to Hodes Latest Gimmick

Challenges Democrat to Back Real Solutions for Veterans Health Care

(Concord)  Responding to Paul Hodes latest election-year gimmick, Republican Grant Bosse today challenged the Democrat to back real reform to the VA System and real solutions to bring down gas prices.  Hodes is proposing an increase in the mileage reimbursement for veterans who have to travel to receive medical care.  Hodes opposes letting veterans use their benefits at any hospital they choose, and has repeatedly blocked efforts to increase domestic gasoline production.

Congressman Hodes Announces Support for Legislation to Help Veterans with Soaring Gas Prices

Concord, NH – Congressman Paul Hodes today announced that he is co-sponsoring the Veterans Travel Equity Act, bipartisan legislation that would increase the mileage reimbursement rate for veterans traveling to receive health care. Congressman Hodes made his announcement after learning last week that the Bush Administration would not support a full service VA Hospital in Manchester and as New Hampshire veterans continue to grapple with record high gas prices.

(Manchester, NH) - Secretary of Veterans Affairs James Peake visited the Manchester VA Medical Center today and announced he doesn't foresee that New Hampshire will ever have a full service VA again. WASHINGTON, DC – Continuing his efforts to expand in-state health care for New Hampshire’s veterans, United States Senator John Sununu (R-NH) today (5/30) asked U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary James B. Peake to study the need for improved access to radiation treatment at the Manchester Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).  He also urged the Secretary to ensure that the VA has a contingency plan in place to meet the needs of the State’s returning servicemembers who require long-term care.

House Passes Kennedy/Shea-Porter Amendment to Improve Behavioral Health Care for Servicemembers

Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) and Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) successfully added an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009  (H.R. 5658).  The amendment will make it easier for servicemembers to get mental health treatment within the military health care system.
