Bosse Responds to Hodes Latest Gimmick

Challenges Democrat to Back Real Solutions for Veterans Health Care

 

(Concord)  Responding to Paul Hodes latest election-year gimmick, Republican Grant Bosse today challenged the Democrat to back real reform to the VA System and real solutions to bring down gas prices.  Hodes is proposing an increase in the mileage reimbursement for veterans who have to travel to receive medical care.  Hodes opposes letting veterans use their benefits at any hospital they choose, and has repeatedly blocked efforts to increase domestic gasoline production.

Congressman Hodes Announces Support for Legislation to Help Veterans with Soaring Gas Prices

       

Concord, NH – Congressman Paul Hodes today announced that he is co-sponsoring the Veterans Travel Equity Act, bipartisan legislation that would increase the mileage reimbursement rate for veterans traveling to receive health care. Congressman Hodes made his announcement after learning last week that the Bush Administration would not support a full service VA Hospital in Manchester and as New Hampshire veterans continue to grapple with record high gas prices.

 SUNUNU AGAIN FAILS NH VETERANS

Despite his lip service, Sununu has opposed funding for the VA and for veterans' health care

(Manchester, NH) - Secretary of Veterans Affairs James Peake visited the Manchester VA Medical Center today and announced he doesn't foresee that New Hampshire will ever have a full service VA again. [AP, 6/24/08] John Sununu visited with Peake at the VA this morning and issued a press release saying he "thanked the Secretary for coming to New Hampshire to tour the Manchester facility and learn more about the needs of the veterans it serves." Sununu, VA Secretary to tour N.H. hospital

Sen. John Sununu (R-Waterville Valley) will meet Tuesday with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary James Peake to discuss extending further health benefits to former Granite State servicemen, the senator's office said. The statement also described Sununu's continued interest in making radiation therapy available to more New Hampshire veterans.

Peake will be in Manchester that morning to visit the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Sununu is in the midst of a difficult re-election race against Democratic former New Hampshire Governor Jean Shaheen, with Shaheen leading Sununu in most polls.

House Passes Kennedy/Shea-Porter Amendment to Improve Behavioral Health Care for Servicemembers

Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) and Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) successfully added an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2009  (H.R. 5658).  The amendment will make it easier for servicemembers to get mental health treatment within the military health care system.

Update: Shaheen discusses Webb GI bill

MANCHESTER- Sitting around a table of veterans, former governor Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury) said he supports a new GI bill.

Shaheen said she supports U.S. Sen. Jim Webb's (D-Virginia) bill that would expand college benefits to current members of the armed services.
