NH Dems hold unity event

Democratic leaders at "Unity 08" press conferenceDemocratic leaders at "Unity 08" press conferenceCONCORD- Despite the ongoing primary battle between Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, supporters from various Democratic presidential campaigns gathered today to launch “Unity 08,” a push to put a Democrat back in the White House.

The effort is aimed at highlighting John McCain's record.

Former Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan, State Rep. Terie Norelli and State Sen. Sylvia Larsen represented the Clinton campaign. Ned Helms and State Sen. Martha Fuller Clark represented the Obama camp and State Sen. Peter Burling represented the Edwards campaign. State Party Chairman Ray Buckley was also present.

Burling beats DiGangi in close vote

GOFFSTOWN- State Sen. Peter Burling defeated two-term DNC committeeman by a vote of 64 to 56.

"It was a razor thin vote, with two great candidates," Burling said. "I'm prepared to take my skills as a lawyer and an advocate to fight for New Hampshire."

The New Hampshire Democratic State Committee has elected Kathy Sullivan and State Sen. Peter Burling to the DNC.

Burling defeated two-term committeeman DiGangi.

Dems prepare to vote for DNC seats

Tomorrow, the New Hampshire Democratic State Committee will elect delegates to fill the two-at large Democratic National Committee (DNC) seats.

The delegates represent the party before the DNC and party rules stipulate that one seat is filled by a woman and the other by a man.

Anita Freedman and Gaetan DiGangi currently hold those seats. However, Freedman has decided to retire and DiGangi is being challenged by State Sen. Peter Burling (D-Cornish).

Manchester Dems roast Buckley

MANCHESTER- On the morning of the Manchester St. Patrick's Day parade, city Democrats took the opportunity to roast state party chairman Ray Buckley.

Roasters ranged from Gov. John Lynch (D-Hopkinton), Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter (D-Rochester), former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen (D-Madbury), State Sen. Lou D'Allesandro (D-Manchester), House Speaker Terie Norelli (D-Portsmouth) and former party chairwoman Kathy Sullivan.

"A lot of people told me the Democratic Party would go up in smoke if Ray Buckley was elected chair. I didn't know they met it literally," Lynch said. "But at least Raymond you're holding this event in a nice joint."

Sullivan running for DNC seat

Former New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairwoman Kathy Sullivan has decided to run for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) seat being vacated by Anita Freedman.

The seat is one of two at-large seats that represents New Hampshire to the national party.

Sullivan cited the need to protect the New Hampshire primary as one reason why she is running.

NH Dems face DNC delegate choice

In their upcoming State Convention, New Hampshire Democrats will get to vote for a new Democratic National Committee (DNC) person and will see a challenge for their other at-large seat.

The Union Leader is reporting that Anita Freedman has decided that she will not seek reelection to her post as DNC Committeewoman. Freedman has represented New Hampshire on the DNC since 1985.

Former Hodes chief-of-staff emerges as Daily Kos blogger

Dana Houle, the former chief-of-staff to Congressman Paul Hodes, has emerged as a front-page blogger on the website "Daily Kos," where he has been writing for years.

Houle managed Paul Hodes successful Congressional campaign in 2006. Houle then became Hodes chief-of-staff.

Houle became the center of controversy after he and Hodes opposed Ray Buckley's candidacy to become Chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

Blue Hampshire: 'cyber equivalent of the old Puritan Restaurant '

Using an open format that allows almost anyone to post comments, the website Blue Hampshire has become a daily read for Granite State Democrats.

Founded in November 2006 by bloggers Mike Caulfield, Laura Clawson and Dean Barker the site now has 1,300 registered users and receives almost 5,000 page views per day.
