Burling not a Buckey fan?

When Space Shuttle Columbia Astronaut Jay Buckey decided to run for US Senate, his home town state Senator Peter Burling never jumped on board.  Burling went one step further and stated publicly there needed to be a draft Jeanne Shaheen movement.

When Shaheen announced she was getting in Buckey did what any good Democratic candidate would do and he eventually got out of the way and threw his support behind her.

So when state Senator Peter Burling decided to step aside, Jay Buckey would seem like an attractive candidate for Burling to throw his support behind.  If not, then maybe just let Buckey and any other candidates who may be interested in the seat work it out.

Some believe this is a seat made for Jay Buckey to gain experience and become a prominent member of the Democratic bench.  But Burling decided at his retirement announcement to throw his support behind state Rep. Matt Houde and once again turn his back on Buckey.

But just because Burling has endorsed Houde does not mean the race is set.  Other potential candidates for the office include Franklin Rep Jim Ryan who chairs the Transportation Committee in the House and Sharon Nordgren who chairs the Finance Committee.  With so many potential contenders for the race Senate District 5 does not lack a deep bench of quality candidates.

Buckey and the bus

Did Burling throw Buckey under the bus? I don't think so. Who did Buckey think he was to run for US Senate after no experience in politics? Any fool can run, and announcing your intention for running, then fumbling around with a rookish campaign for a few months, and then getting out of Shaheen's way WAY after the writing was on the wall, does not exactly qualify Buckey for state senate. He might start where Houde started- running for a house seat.

Houde seems like a sharp guy, though he's making a quick jump himself. But he seems imminently more qualified to run than Buckey- at least he's won a political race in his lifetime, which is -13 years off Buckey's.

Looks like Wally must to be

Looks like Wally must to be onto something because people are getting very sensitive.

And I have yet to hear any response to the central question: did Burling screw Buckey out of the Senate seat?

No one seems to offer proof otherwise.

Oh look, all of those shiny

Oh look, all of those shiny little kids that the senate Dem caucus hired are making their first attack! How sweet!

The laerger issue here is

The laerger issue here is not who he "chose". The question is what makes him bleieve it is his seat to "choose" a replacement for.

So long as we live in a democratic society, he has only selected his preference. A competitive primary would be positive for all involved.

Wally won't respond because he's embarassed

What a loser. This entire site's credibility is lost when anonymous "insiders" post such obviously uninformed crap. Who are you Wally? Why stay anonymous?

Pindell, why attach yourself to such bloggish hackery? The Politicker network will become a traffic-less joke if they don't disclose the writers. These political blogs with anonymous writers almost always fail within a year. What advertisers want to be associated with a site that has no credibility or the trust of its readers?

Anonymous sources are one thing, anonymous pundits and/or analysts is just bad form.

Is Wally really Fergie??

Yet another ridiculous post. Anyone with an IQ of 10 would know that Burling would have spent many hours meeting with Buckey, Nordgren, Ryan and everyone else in the district. How stupid to post such stuff.

Silly Wally

Nordgren and Burling are very close- why would he endorse Houde before checking with her if she wants the seat?

I'd like more info on who you are, Wally- does this site employ professional journalists or anonymous hacks only?
