Betty Hall giving serious consideration to Senate or Congressional run

Inside Edge has confirmed Democratic state Rep. Betty Hall, of Brookline, is giving serious thought to running for either state Senate or Congress on nomination papers as an independent candidate.

If Hall were to run for Senate on nomination papers, she would need 750 signatures to appear on the November ballot. As of now the only announced candidates for SD-12 are Democrat Peggy Gilmour and Republican Paul LaFlamme.

Some insiders question why Hall would not consider running a primary challenge to Gilmour. Hall was the top vote getter in her house district and in a low turnout primary some think Hall may be able to knockoff the unknown Gilmour, who is receiving party support.

State Senate is not the only seat Hall is considering. Hall is also considering a campaign for Congress in the 2nd Congressional district. If Hall were to obtain 1,500 valid signatures she would appear on the November ballot against Congressman Paul Hodes and the eventual Republican nominee.

It’s no secret Hall is on the outs with the Democratic leadership who is reluctant to support Hall’s continued efforts for impeachment. (In case you forgot, she did challenge Ray Buckley for party chair.) That reluctance is making Hall give consideration to bypassing the primary. Sources from Hall’s district have confirmed this is more than idol talk and is a real possibility.

Idol talk?

"Sources from Hall’s district have confirmed this is more than idol talk and is a real possibility."

Idol talk? A Freudian slip?

Go for it, Betty!

Go for it, Betty!

I am a Democrat. I too am disappointed with our Democratic leaders in Concord and Washington for doing their best to avoid the impeachment issue. This includes Terie Norelli, Sylvia Larsen, Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter.

I urge Betty to run for either office, either as a Democrat or Independent. It would be great to have at least one candidate who is grounded in principles, not political expediency.

But will the voters take her seriously?

Before this impeachment thing she came across as a little unstable. After it she looks like a total whack job.

Maybe it's the facial expression. She should try not to give people the evil eye so much:

Actually there were a lot of dirty looks going around that day in the Elections committee...

I'd support Betty Hall!

Rowland, your attack on Betty Hall is juvenile. You can bet I'll take Betty seriously. I'd love to have the opportunity to support a candidate with the courage of her convictions. Betty is special.

Go for it

Given the abysmal record of this Senate, they desperately need some new blood. I don't agree with Betty on everything but she's an honest broker and a hard worker.
